Is This 12-Minute Xbox One Dashboard Demo Vid Too Good To Be True?

I'm so up for the Xbox One's dashboard experience... in theory. I love th eidea of properly being able to Minority Report-swipe around the menu, instantly command Kinect to do my bidding, have it simply recognise me as I walk in the room and bring up my own custom, bespoke homepage filled with content that I love.

Dear God, that sounds awesome!

It kind of looks awesome too, as the video below from Yusuf Mehdi and Marc Whitten demonstrates. I want it. I want it in and around my face. And house.

But we can't know this to be true. I want to believe, I really do. But you've burned me before, Microsoft. The gadget hound in me wants to declare blind faith and pledge allegiance on the basis of these tantalising promises. The demo is really quite impressive. But we can't know for certain until we have one in our hands, until we're able to put Kinect's facial capillary detection service through the ultimate beard test, until we know that Snap won't just lose our games. Windows 8, for all of its faults, handles sh*t. But is the reason that the Xbox One can only achieve certain resolutions for certain games because it's having to work too hard at the multitasking side of things, with a behemoth of an OS to babysit?

We just don't know. All we know is that demo looks pretty damn cool, and that's about it. What do you make of it?

Looking pretty darned slick.

Hopefully there's an option to be "invisible" online, mind. I don't like the idea of everyone knowing whether I'm in my front room or not.

Fingers crossed for Sky TV interaction.
Or Virgin. I'm happy to bin Sky if Virgin get there first. (You hearing this, Sky/Virign? You could lose or gain a lot of customers if you get your sh1t together sharpish!)

Why didn't they show this stuff 6 months ago! :)

Starting to get really excited about this launch now.

Suddenly the Sony stuff looks just like a powerful gaming machine (which arguably a PC will always be better at) but doesn't really bring anything new to the table.

The Sony PlayTV software/ hardware was a superb bit of kit with decent implementation. Can't help but think someone at MS agreed and decided to integrate some of that content through their next gen system.

Looking forward to the next few weeks.

If it really works that seamlessly I'm majorly stoked about Kinect. I don't really care for it as a games controller but if it makes switching between content so easy it'll be great in my living room.

I liked the advertisement for PS3 game Beyond Two Souls near the end :-)
