I'm so up for the Xbox One's dashboard experience... in theory. I love th eidea of properly being able to Minority Report-swipe around the menu, instantly command Kinect to do my bidding, have it simply recognise me as I walk in the room and bring up my own custom, bespoke homepage filled with content that I love.
Dear God, that sounds awesome!
It kind of looks awesome too, as the video below from Yusuf Mehdi and Marc Whitten demonstrates. I want it. I want it in and around my face. And house.
But we can't know this to be true. I want to believe, I really do. But you've burned me before, Microsoft. The gadget hound in me wants to declare blind faith and pledge allegiance on the basis of these tantalising promises. The demo is really quite impressive. But we can't know for certain until we have one in our hands, until we're able to put Kinect's facial capillary detection service through the ultimate beard test, until we know that Snap won't just lose our games. Windows 8, for all of its faults, handles sh*t. But is the reason that the Xbox One can only achieve certain resolutions for certain games because it's having to work too hard at the multitasking side of things, with a behemoth of an OS to babysit?
We just don't know. All we know is that demo looks pretty damn cool, and that's about it. What do you make of it?
