Steam Weekend Deal 40% off Call of Duty 4: MW (GOTY) £17.99 @Steam [PC Game]

Steam Weekend Deal 40% off Call of Duty 4: MW (GOTY) £17.99 @Steam [PC Game]It’s true we’re just on the cusp of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2’s release – the game will be hitting shelves worldwide on November 10th – however for anyone who has not yet experienced, or does not currently own a copy of the first Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the game is now going for half-price as part of this weekend’s Steam deal.

That means you can download a copy for £17.99 which, even though you can get a hold of a GOTY copy for much less than £29.99 (steam’s usual price), still gives you the opportunity to make a very decent saving. Although the next best price comes in at £18.48 from Coolshop they are currently out of stock which means the next best offer comes in at around £25 from Amazon.

Raking in the awards back in 2007, Call of Duty 4: MW was, and probably still is, one of the best first person shooters money can buy. The game alternates between two different storylines, focusing initially upon S.A.S member Soap MacTavish and the exploits of an American Special forces squad deployed to the Middle East. Although the game has some emphasis upon realism – it only takes a few bullets to die and the ballistics system is superb – the game does still retain the cinematic, slightly linear feel of previous Call of Duty titles.

However that said, the quality of the graphics and the intensity of the gameplay more than compensate for this. Steam Weekend Deal 40% off Call of Duty 4: MW (GOTY) £17.99 @Steam [PC Game]The only slight drawback regarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the shortness of the single player campaign which is a little disappointing. Thankfully however the multiplayer mode does much to extend the gameplay and provides great replay value. Good sequels are never easy to produce, and regarding Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward have certainly got their work cut out to release something capable of toppling its epic predecessor.

From Splinter Cell Remaining On the 360 To Microsoft’s Mass Banning On Xbox Live: News Roundup October 31st

Today’s news roundup sees a Ubisoft CEO suggest Splinter Cell will forever remain on the Xbox 360, Sony reveal the extravagant God of War 3 Collector’s Edition, and Microsoft begin banning hundreds of members of Xbox Live for playing pirated games.

Splinter Cell to Remain on Xbox 360 for Time Being

From Splinter Cell Remaining On the 360 To Microsofts Mass Banning On Xbox Live: News Roundup October 31st

Splinter Cell is typically seen as more of an Xbox game than anything else, even though the franchise appeared on the PS2 and GameCube.  This generation however, it looks like Ubisoft are keen to keep the series on the Xbox 360, most likely in exchange for a big fat pile of money.  When Ubisoft Toronto and Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat was questioned on the likelihood of Splinter Cell appearing on the PS3 or elsewhere, he replied “Until further notice [the franchise is staying on Xbox 360]. However, I’m only the one making the games, you should talk to the people in Paris [for a final answer].

Microsoft is notorious for their timed exclusives, releasing a game before anyone else to forever associate the game with the 360.  This will most likely be the case with Splinter Cell: Conviction, eventually seeing release on the PS3 and PC.  [GamingUnion]

God of War 3 Collector’s Edition Revealed

From Splinter Cell Remaining On the 360 To Microsofts Mass Banning On Xbox Live: News Roundup October 31st

Collector’s editions seem to get bigger and badder with every new release that appears on the shelves.  Halo 3 kicked the whole thing off with their ‘Legendary’ edition of Halo 3.  Since then a number of ludicrous collector’s edition has been announced, including night-vision goggles for the prestige edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.  Sony has now joined in on the fun, announcing the “Ultimate Edition” for God of War 3, due for release next year.

The release offers all the usual stuff you can expect with any collector’s edition, including: a limited edition art book, exclusive downloadable content vouchers, a “Dominus” skin for Kratos, a documentary on the making-of, and the original soundtracks for the entire God of War trilogy.  The whole lot comes packaged in a gigantic 8.3” wide x 10.5” long x 5.9” tall replica of Pandora’s Box, taken from the first God of War.  No price has been confirmed, but expect to pay upwards of £70 for the pack.  [1UP]

Microsoft Begin Mass Banning On Xbox Live

From Splinter Cell Remaining On the 360 To Microsofts Mass Banning On Xbox Live: News Roundup October 31st

Microsoft has recently begun a mass banning on Xbox Live of anyone owning a modded console and playing pirate copies of games.  According to a Microsoft spokesperson  “We have taken action against a small percentage of consoles that have been modified to play pirated game discs.  In line with our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox LIVE community, we are suspending these modded consoles from Xbox LIVE.

A look at the official forums shows hundreds of complaints in the past week, with many threads in the technical feedback forum protesting they’ve been banned from Live.  The spokesperson points out it should be clear modifying their Xbox 360 to play pirated games violates the Xbox LIVE terms of use, voiding their warranty, and resulting in a ban.  He adds “The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive from manufacturers, retailers, and the third parties that support them.”  [IGN]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl £9.99 @ Argos [Wii Games]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl £9.99 @ Argos [Wii Games]

If you’ve ever found yourself so bored you’ve actually started arguing with yourself over who would win in a fight between Sonic the Hedgehog and Pikachu from Pokémon, or Link from Zelda and Peach from Mario (actually that’s easy, he’d batter her), then you should check out Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii. By all accounts this is one of the most enjoyable, addictive and entertaining additions to the Smash Brothers franchise, and one which pulled in no less than 9.5 from IGN and an editor’s choice award. Get in!

Now you can get hold of Smash Bro. Brawl for just £9.99 on Argos. This is the best deal currently available, and even though Amazon Jersey are selling the game for the same price, buying it from Argos means you can also get hold of a Nintendo Wii remote docking station system for £9.99, half the usual price. Usually this would usually set you back £19.99 (but if you are willing to spend an extra £2.50, you should consider this deal on the quad charger).

For those who have not stumbled across the Smash Bros series before, the idea behind the game is very simple. Taking the role of anyone of 35 classic video game characters which include the likes of Sonic, Mario, Fox from Star Wing, Diddy-Kong, Link, and many more, you basically have to beat the hell out of your opponent across a variety of 3D platforms. The game allows you to utilize a variety of weapons, abilities and power ups and partake in a vast range of different game modes.Super Smash Bros. Brawl £9.99 @ Argos [Wii Games]

Replay value and multiplayer are absolutely superb even though the game suffers slightly from irritating loading times and the occasional random multiplayer disconnection. Overall however, this is one of the best Wii titles out this year and one which any self respecting Wii gamer has to add to their collection.

Thanks to Rainforest from Hotukdeals.

Wii Remote Quad Charger £12.49 @ Argos [Wii Games]

Wii Remote Quad Charger £12.49 @ Argos [Wii Games]As Nintendo Wii owners will already know, constantly buying new batteries for your controller can set you back a small fortune. So if you haven’t done so already get yourself a pair which is rechargeable, or better still, pick up one of these beasty Wii Remote Quad Chargers which are currently going for half price at Argos.

Cut done from £25, you can now get your hands on one for only £12.49 which, amidst the cheers and rejoices of eco-warriors the world over, means no more battery wastage! For the rest of us however, who deep down, really couldn’t care less about the environment, this is still a worthwhile bargain as you’ll save a pretty penny on batteries in the long run.

As you’ve no doubt guessed, this charger allows you to recharge up to four Wii remotes at once. It comes complete with four replacement rechargeable battery packs plus covers, and utilizes a power supply directly from the Wii console. Some customers seemed slightly anxious about this and wondered whether their poor old Wii console might buckle under the strain of having to recharge controllers and play at the same time.Wii Remote Quad Charger £12.49 @ Argos [Wii Games]

This was apparently described in Overheat Magazine according to Cammie18 from HUKD, but no customers seem to have experienced the problem so far. Those who are slightly worried bear in mind that it is possible to charge from a USB source – as pointed out by cp30 from HUKD – so you can just plug the thing into your desktop PC. Overall, a charger like this (or at the minimum some rechargeable batteries) is an essential piece of kit for any owner of a Nintendo Wii.

Company Of Heroes: Anthology £10 @ Play [PC Games]

Company Of Heroes: Anthology £10 @ Play [PC Games]A great price here on the Company of Heroes Anthology which is now going for just £10 on Play.com. The next cheapest deal according to price comparison comes in at £17.99, so this is a great chance to make a very decent saving and your hands on one of the best World War Two RTS titles currently on market. The deal consists of all three COH editions: Company of Heroes, Opposing Fronts (Expansion Pack), and Tales of Valour (Expansion Pack)

Focusing on the allied invasion of Europe on D-Day, Company of Heroes challenges the player to lead two American squadrons, Fox Company and Able Company, as they fight their way from the Normandy beaches inland. The game has the look of a tradition RTS title but rather than focusing just on building up bases and gathering resources, the main emphasis is upon controlling terrain which makes COH all about the combat right from the outset.

The game is also practically impossible to criticize. Company of Heroes just delivers all-round from the superb visuals, great enemy AI, fast paced gameplay and excellent historical context. The two expansions simply build upon the foundations of COH with a few extra campaigns.Company Of Heroes: Anthology £10 @ Play [PC Games]

Opposing Fronts allows you to have a crack at wiping the British paratroopers during Operation Market Garden or else lead the allies in the conquest of Caen. Tales of Valour on the other is a bit more specific; focusing on either on an elite Tiger Tank crew, a paratrooper squad or else an overwhelmed Wermacht Army. Overall, for fans of real time strategy titles, this is a much buy…

Wii Sports Resort + Wii Motion Plus £27.99 @ Everything Play [Wii Games]

Wii Sports Resort + Wii Motion Plus £27.99 @ Everything Play [Wii Games]

Like the original Wii Sports before it, Wii Sports Resort has been designed specifically to showcase the unique Wiimote controller; this time highlighting the extra precision and responsiveness afforded by the Wii Motion Plus peripheral, which is bundled with the game.

Everything Play are currently offering the best price for the bundle at £27.99 including delivery. If you are a bit wary of using sites that are not hugely well known then I can tell you that Shop To also have a good deal with an asking price of £29.85. After that you’re  looking at prices of just under £35 and upwards so these two retailers are offering a great bargain!

Plenty of people still get a whole lot of use out of their original Wii Sports disc (in fact, sadly, many find that it is still the only game that ever gets any play time on their Wii) and that collection was only comprised of five different sports. Wii Sports Resort includes 12 different activities so there is plenty to keep you and your family and friends busy here. All the games have a strong summer holidays theme which will either cheer or depress you on these dark winter nights!

While each of the activities are very simple to pick up – dare I say, even dumbed down? – to ensure maximum accessibility, the addition of the Motion Plus makes every movement a far more intricate and detailed experience, giving you food for thought in every action you take.Wii Sports Resort + Wii Motion Plus £27.99 @ Everything Play [Wii Games]

Like Wii Sports before it, this does only have limited appeal as a single player game but if you enjoy compelling and high quality multiplayer fun then you will be missing out if you dismiss the latest Wii Sports instalment.

From DSi XL To Insomniac’s Last 60fps Game: News Roundup October 30th

Today’s news roundup see the Nintendo DSi XL announced for Europe, a rough idea of when the Final Fantasy XIII release date outside of Japan will be announced, the possibility of Epic Mickey spanning a triliogy, and Insomniac make the tough decesion to forsake 60fps in exchange for better graphics.

Nintendo DSi XL Revealed for Europe

From DSi XL To Insomniacs Last 60fps Game: News Roundup October 30th

Following Nintendo’s official reveal of the DSi LL yesterday on their Japanese website, Nintendo of Europe has confirmed the new DSi will arrive “in the first quarter of 2010,” under the name DSi XL.  No price has been announced, but expect it to be slightly more expensive than the current DSi.  [1UP]

Final Fantasy XIII Release Date Announcement Revealed

From DSi XL To Insomniacs Last 60fps Game: News Roundup October 30th

Final Fantasy XIII may be out this December in Japan, but we like the rest of the world have to wait until “spring 2010.”  A more concrete release date may be on the way however, as Square Enix has reportedly been casting for an upcoming Final Fantasy XIII advertisement in North America.  Liz Paulson casting agency claim they want to someone to read a script for an “exclusive, never before seen look at Final Fantasy XIII.

A reveal of the North American release date will then mark the end of the advertisement.  Considering the advertisement still needs to be filmed, the official release date won’t be announced anytime soon, although it may just slip out before the advertisement reveals all.  A European release will likely be within days of the North American release so keep those ears peeled.  Does that make sense?  [Siliconera]

Epic Mickey May End Up a Trilogy

From DSi XL To Insomniacs Last 60fps Game: News Roundup October 30th

Epic Mickey may be a year away, but this hasn’t stopped Warren Spector from declaring his desire for a second or even third game.  “I don’t do anything that isn’t extensible,” said Spector.  “And I will certainly feel like that I have not done my job if we can’t make other games in this world with these characters. In my head, I’ve got two more planned.”  Although he points we may never see them, as such things largely depend on the success of the original.

On the subject of future instalments, Spector shared his experiences with the projects he was involved in when Junction Point was acquired by Disney Interactive Studios, announcing they were “Dropped yes, no longer my concern, no; as part of the acquisition, Disney now owns the rights to the fantasy game that I was pitching — which I would love to do someday.”  It looks like Junction Point still have a lot to offer over the next few years, let’s just hope they’re not too “Disney-fied.”  [1UP]

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time Last insomniac Game to run at 60fps

From DSi XL To Insomniacs Last 60fps Game: News Roundup October 30th

According to Insomniac, framerate is one of their “long-standing sacred cows.”  Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time runs at 60 frames per second, and looks great doing so.  Unfortunately it may be the last Insomniac game to boast such a high framerate, as the developer has been forced to choose between higher quality graphics or framerate.  The team claim they’re committed to bringing us the “best looking games out there,” and after extensive research have had to settle for better graphics.

Apparently their findings indicate framerate does not significantly influence review scores, or game sales, while better graphics often lead to a better reception, with gamers believing better looking games equals “more fun.”  Although framerate has taken a back seat for now, the future may provide the opportunity for high quality graphics and a high frame rate to run successfully beside each other.  [InsomniacGames]

Machinarium Review

Machinarium is an unexpected and delightful adventure title that will surprise and impress you.

Machinarium Review

It won’t matter if you’re a fan of the point-and-click adventure genre when you first delve into the depths of Machinarium. This game’s been cleverly structured to deliver a sharp and tasty experience no matter what your preferences.

Built entirely in Flash and dripping with incredible artwork and steampunk attitude, Machinarium is a rarity from indie developer Amanita Design.

Most titles in the adventure genre can be frustrating and tedious, it isn’t unusual for players to simply get fed up, quit and play something else. There’s a limit on your ability to cope with obscure puzzles and a frustrating lack of clues.

Machinarium, however, has tackled these issues ingeniously. To start with, most of the puzzles you’ll encounter are a wonderful cross-section, ranging from the strange to the familiar to the downright obvious. You’ll uncover puzzles that will take you back to the giddy days of Manic Miner and others that you used to play with your siblings on a cold Christmas afternoon.

Machinarium Review

What the developers have done is offer you several ways of solving these puzzles so you don’t lose interest. The first is a button that triggers a thought bubble showing you what you should be aiming for and the second is a complete solution that you can only read once you’ve completed a mini-game. The latter are fabulous side-scrolling shooters similar to the 1980s hit Scramble that are guaranteed to suck up a lot of your time.

The game doesn’t offer complete solutions lightly and as it progresses the solutions become increasingly broader and less obvious. Fans of adventure games will appreciate this purist attitude, knowing full well how satisfying that giddy elation you feel when you’ve laboriously solved a particularly difficult problem can be.

As you move through the world, the game guides you through interacting with the various elements and using your character’s adjustable height to, ahem, reach new heights. This takes about three seconds.

It’s a pleasure to not have to learn a staggering number of controls and buttons before sitting back and enjoying a game. Of course, the character’s adjustable height adds a new dimension to your puzzling and you may get truly stuck unless you remember this detail.

Machinarium Review

As I’ve already mentioned, the artwork is fantastic. The mesmerising world of our forlorn little robot is beautifully realised. I’d happily take any one of the screengrabs here and mount them in my office.

Independent Czech studio, Amanita Design, have put a lot of thought into the details. All in-game communication is handled using speech bubbles and the characters are so well designed that the lack of talking just adds to the experience. For example, if you leave your character doing nothing for long enough he’ll start reminiscing and some of his memories are hilarious. It’s also testament to the philosophy of “less is more”. Our protagonist’s reaction to stupid decisions or impossible actions is a simple noise and a headshake. Sounds like nothing but is in reality very expressive and, dare I say, very cute.

Machinarium Review

Adding to the imagery and animation is a wistful soundtrack and impeccable pacing. The music’s woven neatly into the timing creating a soulful ambience that’s almost relaxing – until they suddenly change it with unexpected time-based puzzles and emotionally charged situations. By the time these roll around you’re so emotionally involved with your character that you find yourself frantically hunting for a solution before the worst can occur.

For anyone who usually plays the FPS, there’s that underlying sense of “must move faster” that the game belies but adds beautifully to the mood.

There are some fiddly little problems and issues that plague Machinarium, while not severe enough to ruin the game, they will result in some frustrations.

During the course of the game you have to try and grab every available object in the vicinity just in case you can use it at some point in the future. Although this is somewhat balanced by their usually being found where they’re most needed.

Amanita has also removed any issues with weighty inventories by having items automatically discarded once they’re used.

Machinarium Review

You may also get a little tired of the range of interaction offered in the game. As areas expand outwards it can become a little befuddling as puzzles pile up, items stack up and solutions remain out of reach. Additionally, your little robot has to be standing right next to the relevant item or equipment in order to use it and sometimes that means playing around incessantly with his height and walking for miles across cityscapes.

The Flash base means there’s no right-click and so extras like running or rapid inventory access can occasionally be sorely missed. You can’t speed up his pace or stop him mid-action if you’ve made the wrong click or two. Watching the same action repeated laboriously because you’ve made a silly error can get a bit tedious.

However, this is not a game for the eternally impatient or the desperate to win. It’s a rich treat for the senses that leads you gently into another realm and makes you believe in sad little robots and their happy little destinies. Machinarium is a rare treat, well worth playing as winter oozes in and we huddle beside our chassis’ for warmth.

Machinarium Review

Batman Arkham Asylum £24.99 @ Gamestation [PS3 or XBox 360 Game]

Batman Arkham Asylum £24.99 @ Gamestation [PS3 or XBox 360 Game]

Just over a week ago Game were offering the excellent Batman Arkham Asylum for just £22.99. Sadly they have now hoiked the price back up and completely run out of stock. However Gamestation are now offering the title for both the X-Box 360  and the Playstation 3 at just 24.99. The next best price I have found for either title is £29.99 at HMV. Amazon are also selling the PS3 version only for this price. Although this is a couple of pounds more than the great Game price, Gamestation are sweetening the deal by sending an exclusive free comic book with orders of the game.

When The Joker pulls off a plan to take over Arkham Asylum and free its inmates, it is, of course, up to Batman to put things right as he is lured into the thick of the calamity.

Batman Arkham Asylum £24.99 @ Gamestation [PS3 or XBox 360 Game]If you are a fan of Batman then you will love this game; it’s rich in detail and provides confrontations with many of the key villains from the comic’s history. And if you are not a fan of Batman then, well, you will love this game; it’s slick, beautifully presented and a complete blast to play. Some have complained that it is a tad on the easy side and so quick to finish but there are plenty of side threads to unravel, meaning that there is plenty here to keep completionists occupied.

Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter £17.50 @ Shop To [DS Games]

Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter £17.50 @ Shop To [DS Games]

Before the highly enjoyable and enchanting (but just a tiny bit disappointing)Scribblenauts, there was the distinctly underwhelming and deeply disappointing Drawn to Life. Its sequel Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter snuck into shops just a couple of weeks ago, sadly suffering from many of the same flaws as its predecessor. The premise was fantastic, the realisation a letdown.
However, if you remain undeterred and want to give it a try yourself or you really loved the first game then you may like to know that Shop To are currently selling The Next Chapter for a very reasonable £17.50 which is over £5 less than the next best price, from Amazon at £23.14.

That oh-so promising premise was that you could use your nifty little stylus to design your very own character, exactly as you wished them to appear and then the game would bring them to life in their very own adventure. The idea captured my imagination immediately and the first Drawn to Life was a title that I anticipated extremely eagerly. Alas the amazing adventure that my cool little lady (who took a great deal of painstaking time to get just right) set off on really wasn’t all that amazing. The game was not awful, just horribly disappointing in the face of all its potential and my high hopes.

Sadly it seems that this second instalment comes complete with virtually all the same problems. Sure, there is a perfectly serviceable game here but it is just not fun or exciting to play. The creation elements are fun but there is not enough of them and the things you create are very unlikely to sit comfortably in their new home environments.Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter £17.50 @ Shop To [DS Games]

On the other hand, if you were a fan of the first instalment then you should find a lot to love here with its improved visuals and stronger tool for bringing your creations to life.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days £16.49 @ Cool Shop [DS Games]

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days £16.49 @ Cool Shop [DS Games]

The latest Kingdom Hearts adventure catches up with Sora’s Nobody counterpart, Roxas in a tale that, surprisingly enough, sees him travel through a succession of Disney landscapes.

Coolshop offered a good preorder deal for the game and now that it has been released, they’ve snuck back into the lead in the best deal race once again. They have the game priced at £16.49, a small but worthwhile saving against the next best offer of £17.73 from The Hut.

358/2 Days started life as a PS2 game but has been squidged onto a teeny tiny DS cartridge, which sadly means that touchscreen control is out. However, it is beautifully presented and features impressive graphics for a handheld and some nice voice acting. Sadly virtually all of the game is text only though, with voices gracing only a select group of cut-scenes and the music, while perfectly suited and pleasant, is simply lifted from previous instalments of the series.

The story is interesting, or at least it is if you are a Kingdom Hearts fan; if not, it may be more fair to file it under “baffling”. But so long as you are a fan, you will find this well worth delving into as it offers valuable insight into the character of Roxas and the group that he is part of: Organisation XIII. The combat offers lots of fun, with fighting that feels like something of a return to the style of the original Kingdom Hearts. The ability to customise your characters adds a welcome extra dimension to the game as does the possibility of playing with your chums online.

All in all this is a very worthwhile addition to the series and a must-have if you are a fan. If, on the other hand, you are new to the world of Kingdom Hearts then I suggest that you dip your toes in the water of the original game first!

Team Fortress 2 £2.49 @ Steam [PC Games]

Team Fortress 2 £2.49 @ Steam [PC Games]

Team Fortress offers strategic squad based shooting at its most fun and stylish with a great range of classes to choose from, each one well balanced and fun to try out.

You’ll have to be super quick to grab this one! For two hours only Steam are offering Team Fortress 2 for a mere £2.49. The deal ends at 2pm Pacific Time, which I believe translates to 9 on this side of the pond. The game usually goes for £13.99 on Steam and the cheapest price I have found elsewhere is £9.99 at Amazon for a hard copy.

I’m sure that, like me, most of you have a copy of TF2 in the Orange Box but if you are not a console player or you just somehow missed out on that must-have collection then I must strongly urge you to consider splashing out the measly two pounds fifty that Steam are asking for this great game! It has a fantastic style all of its own and just feels so darn great to play.

Sadly I am pretty much hopeless at these sorts of games and have never made much progress on the game, which is infuriating as it has received rave review after rave review and I hear nothing but praise for it. If you enjoy team based strategic shooters then Team Fortress 2 is a must have – in fact why don’t you have it already?!Team Fortress 2 £2.49 @ Steam [PC Games]

Go go go!

From The Wii 2 To Jackman In Uncharted: News Roundup October 29th

Today’s news roundup sees the possibility of a new Wii offering Blu-ray and 1080P support in 2010, Nintendo confirm a new DSi model to be released in Japan this November, and rumours of Hugh ‘Wolverine’ Jackman to take the role of Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie.

Wii 2 Rumoured for Next Year, Blu-ray Drive and 1080P Support Included

From The Wii 2 To Jackman In Uncharted: News Roundup October 29th

Thanks to a Nintendo of France marketing employee, it appears specs have been released regarding the ‘Wii 2’.  This new breed of Wii is reportedly set for release in the third quarter of next year, complete with a Blu-ray drive and 1080P support, bringing the Wii firmly into this generation.

An option to trade in the original Wii will also be available apparently, making the new model a bit more affordable.  Nintendo have no plans to reveal this anytime soon, but with a year to go until release we’ll likely be drip-fed morsels every now and then to keep us happy.  [MaxConsole]

New Nintendo DSi LL Officially Announced

From The Wii 2 To Jackman In Uncharted: News Roundup October 29th

Following rumours of a new DSi model hitting Japan later this year, Nintendo have just gone and confirmed the whole thing on their official Japanese site.  The new model is to be named the DSi LL, and is currently headed for a November 21st release in Japan.  The LL will cost approximately 2,000 yen more than the current DSi, but boasts a larger 4.2 inch screen, as well as a greatly increased battery life.

The DSi LL will also include a full-size pen in the mix, and will be offered in three different colours: Natural White, Dark Brown, and Wine Red.  A slightly bigger screen may not be enough to warrant a new purchase, so don’t go throwing your DS in the fire just yet.  No European release details have been released yet, but you’ll know as soon as we know.  [1UP]

With an Uncharted movie adaption in the works, everybody is playing the guessing game for who will take the lead role.  The obvious choice would be Nolan North, the man who acted as and voiced Nathan Drake in the previous Uncharted games.  But as North explained in a recent interview, he may not be cut out to take on a blockbuster Hollywood role just yet.  “I would love to do the movie, obviously I’d love to do it as Nathan Drake [...] but I’ve done film and television and I understand the reality of the business,” said North.

When questioned on who he would like to take on the role, North named Hugh Jackman as his top choice.  “Jackman is who I’d like to see. I think the producers would like to see Jackman too, because he has that tough guy exterior, but [...] there’s also a lot going on behind his eyes,” said North.  “A lot of emotion and sensitivity on that brusque exterior and he has great comic timing.”  The apparent sexiest man of 2009 has yet to comment, but if he’s on board, it looks like every else is too.  [PushSquare]

Buy Brutal Legend: £27.85 @ ShopTo [Xbox 360 Or PS3 Game]

Buy Brutal Legend: £27.85 @ ShopTo [Xbox 360 Or PS3 Game]

When Lydia last posted a deal for the Xbox 360 version of Brutal Legend, it was for a pre-order, and it was selling for £34.85 @ Shopto.net. They’ve outdone themselves now and knocked a chunk off the price, and are now offering this video game for only £27.95.

After a price comparison, I can see that the cheapest elsewhere for the Xbox 360 version of Brutal Legend Xbox is £34.99 from many retailers. For the Playstation 3 version, cheapest elsewhere is also £34.99, so this is a really great price from Shopto.net. Check out the price comparison tool below to show you the results.

For your info, IGN give Brutal Legend a rating of 9/10, which is pretty outstanding. Gamespot aren’t quite as complimentary, but still award the game a healthy 8.5/10.

Thanks to Wayne for emailing and letting us know about the deal!

Fifa 10 £27.99 @ Shop To [XBox 360 Games]

Fifa 10 £27.99 @ Shop To [XBox 360 Games]

It has been hailed as “The Best Football Game Ever!!!” and received rave reviews all round so it’s nice to see that the price war is still raging and Fifa 10 is already available for less than £30.

Shop To have the best deal at the moment, coming in at nearly a fiver less than their next closest competitor, Amazon, who are offering the game for £32.80.

I have heard nothing but praise for Fifa 10. It offers a huge variety of play modes with increased depth to keep you coming back for more, long after you’ve taken your first team to the top. Nothing has been radically changed but virtually everything has been tweaked and shined to perfection meaning that, if you are a big football fan, even if you own Fifa 09, you may well want to add this to your collection too. Apparently they have even sorted out the horrendous issues that the last instalment had with understanding the off-side rule (heck, even I seem to have a better idea of how it works than Fifa 09!)

Play is now a whole lot smoother thanks to the fancy new 360 degree player control which gives players a far more natural and graceful motion. Another lovely new addition is My Virtual Pro which utilises EA’s Game Face technology to offer players the chance to finally fulfill their dream of being a pro footballer. Well, kinda. You design your looky-likey player and then get them working hard to gradually improve their attributes in a surprising rpg-esque twist.

While it is not perfect, there is enough goodness here to make Fifa 10 an essential purchase for fans of the series and could even be enough to turn the heads of some Pro-Evo die hards.Fifa 10 £27.99 @ Shop To [XBox 360 Games]
