Today’s news looks at the possibility of The Secret World becoming the Xbox 360’s Killer App, while PSP Minis may appear on other formats in the near future, and Wolfenstein sees rather poor sales meaning designer Manveer Heir won’t have to cough up the refund he promised if it outsold Madden.

The Secret World To Be Microsoft’s Killer App

Microsoft looks intent to squash claims that 2010 will be “the year of the PS3,” with their very own ‘killer app’.  The game intended for this title is  The Secret World, combining massively multiplayer open-world gaming with present day urban mythology.  Funcom will be handling development duties, previously noted for their success with the Age of Conan and Anarchy Online games.  The Secret World offers gamers an alternate reality where absurd myths, conspiracy theories and urban legends are true.  Vampires will attack you in the dark, werewolves hunt in the sewers and undead roam in the shadows.

The game won’t follow any trends set by previous MMO games.  There will be no levelling up, experience points, or particular skills that a player has to stick to.  The game will apparently blur “the line between the real, the virtual and the mythological for its inhabitants,” taking place across the entire world, through cities like New York, London, and Africa.  The game aims to make every single feature of the game customisable, offering players the chance to play the game however they want.  The player can choose to use weapons, fighting techniques, or even magic to dispatch their foes.  The Secret World should make it for a 2010 release but no word yet on anything more exact.  [Xboxist]

PSP Minis May Appear On UMD And Other Consoles

PSP Minis may no longer be confined to as downloadable only titles in the near future, or even the PSP.  Sony Computer Entertainment Europe head of developer relations Zeno Colaco believes “ the most successful Minis” will likely see release on UMD, and maybe even on the PS3.

I think that a package of multiple Minis games on a single UMD is a real possibility at a later stage, where even a studio or publisher will put a collection of their own games on a single disc. We'd be open to that” said Colaco.  He stated there could also be a strong possibility of Minis appearing on other consoles in the future.  When the PSP Go hits soon, fifteen PSP Minis should be available for download.  [Develop-Online]

Wolfenstein Sees Poor Sales While Madden Nearly Hits 2 Million

From 2010 Offering Microsoft's Killer App To Wolfensteins Poor Sales: News Roundup September 12th

A while back before the release of Wolfenstein, Raven Software designer Manveer Heir made the bold promise of giving everyone who bought the game a full refund, provided it outsold this year’s Madden.  According to NPD Group it failed, quite spectacularly in fact.  Wolfenstein only managed a lacklustre 106,000 copies in total, including Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3 versions of the game.  Madden managed a staggering 1.9 million units on the other hand.  At least Heir can enjoy the fact he won’t have to sell his house to keep his promise.  [GameSpot]
