Activision promises "photorealistic" visuals for Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Their words, not mine. Sledgehammer Games have released a new video that doesn't pull its punches, proclaiming that Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be the most profound visual update the series has ever received. Packing "photorealistic" assets to painstaking facial and performance capture, apparently the next-gen shooter will make us say, "oh my God that's a game, that's crazy!"

Again, their words, not mine. Here's hoping that Advanced Warfare will deliver, partly because we love the futuristic premise, but also because Ghosts failed to push the franchise forward in any meaningful way. We're due an overhaul and, to their credit, Sledgehammer are making all the right noises.

We'll find out if they can also make a decent game come November 4th.

Wasn't this time last year Ghosts was making all the right noises? Year before that COD:Black Op2, then the year before that COD:MW3.

Point is, regardless on how good / bad this game turns out, the hype train doesn't look like it's stopping. I've grow tired of the series, Ghosts was laughable luckily I didn't buy it but I did have a go during a "free" weekend on steam. It was terrible. With this one, I'll do the same, wait for a free weekend then try it for myself.

"Photo-realistic visuals" = The 720p video cut-scenes :)

I'm not sure why they had to put Spacey into a gimp suit covered in balls and map his movements, to make a realistic model of him, to put into a video-clip (cut scene). Why not just put him in a suit and film him for real? That would be more photorealistic - because he doesn't look it in that banner or the clip. Admittedly it looks pretty good - but not as good as filming him for real.

Unless he turned up in his own gimp suit, and they just went with the flow and used SFX to make it look like he's in a suit.

@Tsung: Heh, you're not wrong. There's a world of difference between talking a good game and making a good game. 8)

That said, I'm excited about what the new setting and tech could do for gameplay, both SP and MP. Battlesuits with enhanced health and mobility could really punch things up. I honestly wonder whether it'll be a half-decent and forward-thinking game... that receives reduced sales because loads of gamers are done with the whole thing.

@Late: I suspect that it was in Spacey's rider.

Pretty certain that at no point did I mistake any of that trailer for a TV programme.

I'd have been slightly less cynical if the headline read:

Activision promises Tartan Paint

Oh man, that'll be boss. Or reem. Or dope.

Or whatever kids currently say instead of "cool" (or "skill" as it was when I were a lad).

Anarchist  Jul. 3, 2014 at 10:54

You had to go and bring skill up didn't you. I'm bringing it back now, for at least the next week anyway.

Late  Jul. 3, 2014 at 11:34

That would be skill.

Skill bruv, that would be rude, innit.
