Remember back in July when the URL ModernWarfare3.com began redirecting visitors to the Battlefield 3 website? It was either an amazing marketing stunt from EA or a daring fanboy prank, and had Activision's feathers ruffling. But remember, this is a multi-billion dollar company we're talking about; they don't take too kindly to pranks, and neither do their very skilled and highly paid team of lawyers, who have since reclaimed control of the site and put the matter to rest.
The URL was first snatched up by GoDaddy.com, Inc. who were taken to court by Activision. GoDaddy defended his usage of the site, claiming that the term "modern warfare" is generic and not monopolized by the Complainant, Activision. Sadly, the judges did not agree with this sentiment, and ruled that "Accordingly, it is Ordered that the <modernwarfare3.com> domain name be TRANSFERRED from Respondent to Complainant". Ah, well. Activision win again. [National Arbitration Forum]
