Players get to explore the secluded town of Bright Falls, as Alan Wake searches for his wife and tries to work out why he can't remember writing his latest novel, which seems to be coming to life.
You can pick up a copy on the Xbox 360 from amazon for £31.97, which isn't bad considering the the game was released a couple of weeks ago and will make you a saving of almost £2 over the next best price of £33.74 from Tesco Entertainment.
This is a game I find quite intriguing and want to get my hands on. The story is divided up using an episodic format, reminiscent of TV shows such as Lost, The X-Files, and Twin Peaks, and Alan's time in Bright Falls is broken up by gathering clues from the town's folk during the day, and surviving the 'Taken' at night.
The combat is an interesting affair, Alan has to weaken the 'Taken' using light generated by torches, flares, and flash bangs. Once this has been achieved Alan can pump rounds from his revolver into his enemies. At times this can be a challenge, even against a small number of 'Taken' and helps to highlight the fact that Alan is a novelist and not a gun wielding maniac.
Alan Wake is a fantastic original piece of work, that takes great pride in its story, shines a whole new light on combat, and is set in a town that has been wonderfully constructed.
