Aliens: Colonial Marines was first announced way back in 2008; but since then we've seen little to nothing from Gearbox Software's ambitious squad-shooter. It had long been feared dead, but at a BAFTA speech early last month, studio head and all-round Dealspwn hero, Randy Pitchford, confirmed it was still alive and very much kicking. And now, thanks to the media deluge that is E3, we've a few brand new screenshots to devour.
And what better way to reintroduce the game than to show off the classic exosuit cargo loader duking it out with an Alien queen? It's a tantalizing nugget of what we'll probably be getting up to in-game, and the general vibe and aesthetic is dripping with homage to its namesake.
Next up, we've got a shot of a soon-to-be-very-dead marine, staring intently in one direction while a xenomorph hangs upside down behind it, baring its jaws and priming its prehensile maw. The marine is outfitted with a microphone attached to his helmet, and fans of James Cameron's film may remember the incredibly tense scene when the marine squad first infiltrate the seemingly abandoned facility, on-board cameras and mics feeding their footage to a bank of screens. Might we be able to glimpse what is going on with our squad-mates in the game, too?
And finally, a not-so-reassuring scene of a pack of xenomorphs scuttling towards a very unlucky place or person. Crawling across wall, floor and ceiling, the xenomorphs are set to be as fearsome an in-game foe as they are in the films. All in all, a very promising batch of images. We hope Gearbox will show more on Aliens Colonial Marines in the coming weeks. [Eurogamer]
