SEGA's espionage RPG didn't exactly set the world on fire and the critical community alight... but the price is falling fast. Leading the pack is Coolshop, who are retailing at a staggering £17.97. This will save you £4 on Tesco's FTSL 15-1 voucher code price and a whopping £7 compared to the next best offer! Stocks are low, so make sure to snap this up quickly if it tickles your fancy.
Alpha Protocol does its best to provide a game experience that's somewhere between James Bond and Mass Effect- and in many ways, it succeeds. Whilst many critics point accusing fingers at the limp gunplay, this actually forces you to use stealth, guile and the shadows to kill your enemies and fulfil your mission objectives. Having said that, being unable to drop targets at point blank range with a shotgun is a little disconcerting. Mass Effect 2 this ain't.
On the other hand, the conversation system is very reminiscent of Bioware's epic series and is by far and away the most capable part of the package. Not only do the story and gameplay elements drastically change depending on your conversation choices, but you can actually learn a lot about future objectives from your little chats.
On the other... other hand, the shooting is clunky and the graphics are decidedly patchy... in fact, Alpha Protocol is a very uneven little package. There's still a meaty little game waiting for stealth fans who are willing to look past it's flaws though- and I'd recommend sticking to the stealth rather than going in all guns blazing. You'll just make a fool of yourself otherwise...
