Angry Mass Effect 3 Fans Petition For New Ending...

...In Their Thousands

Mass Effect 3 is this week's chart topper after a thoroughly successful launch, and absolutely deserves to be there. However, gamers are up in arms about the ending (for reasons that I won't post here for fear of spoilers) - and are taking to the BioWare forums in droves to petition for a re-write. At the time of writing, over 25,000 gamers have added their names to the cause, citing numerous complaints about linearity, tone and plot holes.

Have you completed Mass Effect 3 yet? If so, we'd love to hear what you made of the ending (please try to keep spoilers to a minumum or discuss it here)... and whether you feel that BioWare owes fans a do-over. Matt is currently working on our full review, and we're going to discuss the issue in this week's PWNcast.

I haven't even bothered to get it. Bioware games always disappoint these days - how far they have fallen...

I didn't preorder for two reasons:
1) I knew it would drop in price quickly on the PC
2) I'm too busy this month trying to get my house ready to sell and didn't want the distraction.

I'm now really glad I didn't as I've seen this same story on many sites so hopefully by waiting I'll get a better ending - assuming EA listen of course (its not like Bioware have a say!).

I'm sure that EA will be more than happy to sell you a better ending for 1200 MSP. Everyone's a winner!

The game is prolly very good but i just coudent stand the whole damn marketing campaign from EA. I'm just sick of seeing it and hearing about it.
Maybe in 1 year or so when it came down in price i might bother with it. But right now i can't stand it.

Yeah, it's definitely up there with the most disappointing endings in any form of media ever. I figured I'd got the "bad ending" because I hadn't spent any time in multiplayer (although I'd done all of the side-quests, scouting missions, etc). Nope, turns out that was the "best" ending.

Clint Mansell's score in that ending cutscene though - wow.

Boo hoo hoo.
Good luck with the petition.
I've been petitioning Nintendo for years regarding the kill screen ending to Donkey Kong, so far no joy.

Just not a fitting end to Mario!

I'm in a tricky position as I want to know what this partition is all about - 35K votes when the game is barely a week old is quite an achievement for one post (at time of commenting) - but I don't want to spoil the Mass Effect 3 ending...

This actually feels like one of those Paragon/neutral/renegade choices happening IRL...

"but I don't want to spoil the Mass Effect 3 ending... "

Don't worry, it seems that has already been done for you ;)

I thought the ending was good. It was ambiguous, I don't want it spelled out for me. It had me thinking for a while after I had finished it in the way some films and TV shows have ambiguous endings. No game has ever had me do this.

Do these fans want an Animal House ending explaining what happened to everyone?

I hope Bioware do not yield. It's their story and I've enjoyed experiencing it, I wouldn't petition for the end of a film or book to be changed, it's not my story.
