When Anno set sail for the Wii it didn't cause much of a splash, which is a shame as it is a decent city building/real time strategy crossover.
Play are currently offering the same price of £9.99 but they have a 1-2 week wait on stock. In fact the next best deal from a retailer with the item available is over triple the price at £31.99 (from Everything Play)!
Set in a shiny, sanitised version of the 1400s, Create a New World stars two princes and brothers, William and Edward, sent by their father to travel the seas in order to find resources to alleviate the drought and famine that plagues their homeland.
The Wii incarnation of the popular German games franchise takes the core mechanics and elements of the Anno series (resource management, city creation, exploration and jolly high seas adventuring) and uses them to create a whole new game tailored for the console. This makes for a satisfying game that feels deep and appealing without being overly complicated.
There's plenty of life in Create a New World, with a Story Mode (that, despite being pretty much one long tutorial, is excellent and will last you around ten hours) and a free-form Continuous Play Mode. Anno on the Wii is an attractive affair with charming colourful graphics, though there are the odd few frame rate issues.
The Wii is distinctly lacking in RTS action and so it's great to see a quality game of this type appear on the console.
