ArenaNet Announce Incoming Guild Wars 2 Beta

Full Release “Later This Year”

As the Lunar New Year welcomes in the Year of the Dragon, ArenaNet have chosen to use the occasion to announce their plans for their upcoming MMORPG Guild Wars 2.

In a blog entry posted on the official website this morning, ArenaNet Founder and President Mike O’Brien broke the exciting news that after months of taking a “when it’s done” approach, the press and fans would be getting hands-on with Guild Wars 2 in the very-near future.

We recently finished our first closed beta test, and we’re now ready to hold progressively larger events. In February we’ll invite select press to participate in beta testing, and in March and April we’ll aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events so that many of you will have a chance to participate. And of course, this all leads to the release of Guild Wars 2 later this year.

This news comes after a number of positive hands-on reports last year (including from us) as well as last month’s reveal of the final class for the game; the Mesmer. Details on how fans can sign up for the beta test will be announced in the coming weeks, and we’ll be sure to update you as soon as word materialises. You can read the ArenaNet blog entry in its entirety at the link here.

If that bit of news has got you itching for more information, you can check out our coverage of Guild Wars 2 from Gamescom here, our Hands-on Preview of the PvP content here, and our video interview with Lead Designer Eric Flannum here.

Hmm - it certainly looks and sounds a million times better than SWTOR.

I own several Guild War expansions but never really got into it. Guild Wars 2 does seem much better.
