Arkham City's Robin A "Unique" Character

Don't expect Robin to simply be a re-skinned Batman or Catwoman in Arkham City. Rocksteady have devoted considerable time to the Boy Wonder to ensure he feels "unique" and offers a "different feel" to his bat and feline counterparts. Rocksteady's Dax Ginn sat down with IGN AU to discuss Arkham City's bonus character, who's contained to a set of exclusive challenge maps.

"We wanted to make sure every aspect of Robin felt unique and felt meaningful," Ginn explains. Modeled on a UFC fighter, Rocksteady wanted to distance their version of Robin from the childlike, playful depictions of old. "He has a weapon, his bow-staff that he can deploy into a shield which immediately gives a different feel, and that's something that Batman and Catwoman just don't have."

Ginn also teased of a "navigation system" akin to Batman's gliding that Robin can employ, although he wouldn't offer any further details. Robin is seen wearing a cape in concept art, so I expect it'll function very much like Batman's gliding, although perhaps with a more acrobatic twist. Ginn also wouldn't budge on rumors of villains appearing in the challenge modes.

"here's certainly super-cool stuff around that... But I'm going to have to duck that [question] for the time being. It's awesome, totally awesome and you'll know what I mean when you see it," he teased, probably while twirling a stray mustache hair and stroking a cat. We'll have more for you on Arkham City as the release date looms. [IGN AU]
