Contains Tree Jumping, Tri-Cornered Hats, & Release Date
The surprise may have been spoiled a few days ago, but the countdown on the Assassin’s Creed website came to an end this afternoon and delivered a trailer for the third numeric entry in the franchise, along with a confirmed release date.
The trailer once again confirms what we already knew, that the action will take place in 1777 during the American Revolution. The CGI-heavy trailer shows the familiar level of brutality that exists in the combat, including a rather sharp tomahawk that seems incredibly effective at removing tri-cornered hats. After seeing a pack of wolves feasting on the assassin’s fodder, we get an extended sequence of the assassin hopping through the snow-covered trees, which we can only assume at this point is representative of the gameplay we can expect in the third main instalment.
The trailer ends with the assassin overlooking a huge battlefield, as American freedom fighters charge at the Red-Coat-wearing, tea-swilling, EVIL English. We then get a more useful piece of information; Assassin’s Creed 3 will be released on October 31st.
A lack of in-game footage means there isn't really much more we can take away from the trailer, and in comparison to the Revelations trailers of last year we here at Dealspwn can’t help but feel the video is a little lacklustre. Still, a firm release date is good news, and we can only hope that we will be hearing more about the gameplay mechanics in the weeks to come.
