How do you assassinate people in Skyrim?

If you get the "assassin's blade" perk then you can kill most people with a single dagger swing if you're hidden.
Otherwise, assassination missions are pretty much just killing, doesn't have to be anything special.

Most people say it is random but it is not you have to be sneaking and some thing others dont know is that you have to be moving FORWARD when you strike or you wont do the cutscene.
