Assassin's Creed: Unity officially announced

"Abstergo are trying to force our hand"

Spurred into taking early action by this week's massive leaks, Ubisoft have decided to turn rumour into reality. Assassin's Creed: Unity is indeed headed to next-gen consoles, set in Paris during the French revolution.

Beyond the teaser footage, we've got little to go on beyond the setting and black-clad protagonist (called Arno if the leaks are correct - which they patently are). Rumours also suggested that the parkour system will receive a major overhaul this time around.

"Qu'ils mangent de la brioche! We have been working on the new Assassin's Creed for more than three years and although we weren't quite ready to show you our full vision for a next-gen only AC, it seems Abstergo are trying to force our hand," explains the company's latest statement, not-so-subtly admitting that the leaks earlier this week were to blame for the premature reveal.

We'll doubtlessly hear more about Assassin's Creed: Unity over the coming months, especially in the run-up to the summer expos. For now, let us know what you make of it!

If that scene with him looking down onto the guillotine is in-game alpha footage, then I've just been made a very happy person indeed. I wonder whether they'll keep some of the ship/pirate combat side of the game.

Amazing... I'd like to get around to playing number 4 soon!
