Atlus' Parent Company Declares Bankruptcy

Atlus are beloved in this industry as a publisher of fantastic niche and localised titles, but their long-term future has been cast into doubt by their parent company's worrisome financial situation.

According to CNET Japan [via NEOGAF], Index Holdings owes £160 million, while company president Ochiai Yoshimi is likely to resign. Having declared bankruptcy following several emergency meetings - not to mention a police investigation over potential serious fraud allegations - the Atlus gaming label will almost certainly have to be sold on.

As the developer and publisher behind Shin Megami Tensei, Persona and other truly beloved series, we hope that Atlus will survive the proceedings. More as we hear it.
