Avalanche Studios piqued our interest with some tantalising screenshots over the last few months, which many of us assumed to be in-development shots of Just Cause 3. However, it transpires that they were actually from an entirely new steampunk sandbox game that has now been shelved indefinitely.
"They were from a steampunk-style game we had in development that we put on ice,” Avalanche chief creative officer Christofer Sundberg explained to EDGE when asked about the enigmatic images.
“I really love that art style, and to combine it with sandbox gameplay is a dream of mine. Fortunately, being an independent developer I can control my own destiny and we’ll make something in that world sooner or later.”
Just to add insult to injury, we recently learned that Avalanche "almost" signed up to create an open-world Star Wars title.
So what are Avalanche working on, then? Apparently we'll find out later this year. “We are developing for both current and next-gen," Sundberg continued, "but the earliest we’ll be able to talk about it and go into any detail is after the games we are working on are announced."
“We’re also announcing new, interesting tech development that we do internally, but that is not until later this year.”
