Avast, Me Hearties! Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Outed Ahead Of Reveal Event

In amongst the tedium of playing as a plank of wood Connor in Assassin's Creed III, I often wondered why the hell Ubisoft didn't just make an awesome naval-based, Pirates!-esque game, set in the Caribbean, and featuring one of Connor's significantly more interesting older relatives.

Well, it looks like that might just be happening.

A promotional poster for the game, bearing the title Assassin's Creed IV: Blag Flag, found its way into the hands of Kotaku. The poster shows a hooded Assassin on the deck of a ship, fending off a bunch of bearded buccaneers as the Jolly Roger flies above.

Further inspection revealed a map on the other side of the poster of Cuba, Jamaican, the southern tip of Florida, and surrounding islands, peppered with Assassin logos that all have a skull in the middle.

There's an Assassin's Creed event happening this evening that's been shrouded in mystery for the past week or two, and this makes things a little clearer. We'll have the intrepid Mr. Lester there tonight to get the official lowdown.

["plank of wood Connor" - we can agree he was at home amongst the trees... ;) ]

Slightly curious that Brotherhood and Revelations weren't numbered as part of the Assassin's Creed canon (apparently because they were slightly rushed 1 year cash ins) but this is numbered IV.

I guess another way of looking at it is they use numbers whenever they introduce a new main protagonist - with the long delay between 2 and 3 being because Ezio was popular, and the very short delay between 3 and 4 being because Connor is less so...

AC3's sea battles were good fun, so this has potential. I did massively enjoy the trees and cliffs of the frontier region on AC3, though - I hope we'll still have some parkour amongst natural features again in AC4, as the rooftops were getting a bit stale for me.

I look forward to hearing more tonight.

Edward Kenway is the main charachter. Haytham's dad. Can't wait. Goodbye Connor!!!

I hear that Ubisoft have already said an AC game will be released in the 2013-14 fiscal year.

AC1 - Nov 2007
AC2 - Nov 2009
ACB - Nov 2010
ACR - Nov 2011
AC3 - Nov 2012

Anyone care to hazard a guess at what month they're planning on releasing this new game?

Errrrm, November?

I can't wait anyhoo. I love me some Assassins Creed. Just not keen to jump into Connor again. I couldn't get enough of Altair and Ezio. Connor was just a drag.

I found the voice acting poor, and the character very naive, but I loved the frontier. You didn't get that with Ezio and Altair.

It was all about the epic story and loving the charachter where Ezio was concerned. Just never felt nothing towards Connor.
