Last week I attended Bandai Namco's Level-Up 2015 preview event, which allowed me to get hands-on with a slew of upcoming titles on consoles and PC, in a variety of genres. Stay tuned for plenty of preview coverage over the next few days.
However, two genres -- first person shooting and sports -- were not represented at the event or in Bandai Namco's lineup as a whole.. but that's a gap they're keen to fill sooner rather than later.
During their keynote presentation, which we was not allowed to record either in terms of audio or video (so apologies for the lack of direct quotes), we were told that Namco Bandai are aware that FPS titles and sports games are not currently a part of their publishing portfolio. Interestingly, though, they also confirmed that they're currently intending to enter these genres before too long, and we should expect some announcements in the next few months.
We currently have no idea what these games are, but it would fit nicely into their current publishing slate of localised Japanese games for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, PC, Vita and 3DS (including Project X Zone 2, which is indeed happening), alongside the likes of The Witcher III, Project CARS, F1 2015 and more.
It's interesting to theorise. Considering that Bandai Namco have helped out with publishing and distribution for a number of smaller PC titles over the last two years, including GoD Factory Wingman, it's possible they'll look to more up-and-coming studios, Early Access or even Kickstarter for potential new contacts. That said, given their publishing clout, it's equally possible that they'd look to work with larger and more established studios too.
Either way, we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything more.
