Batman: Arkham City Collector's Edition Confirmed & Detailed

Felix recently had a good old moan about the Batman: Arkham City Collector's Edition that was outed by Best Buy over in the States. Warner Bros has just confirmed that the details are correct - and that the package is headed for Europe. Here's what it involves:

  • Custom Batman statue produced by Kotobukiya
  • Collectible art book
  • Early access to the Iceberg Lounge Challenge Map and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns skin
  • Batman: Arkham City album from WaterTower Music including original songs by hit artists, available via digital redemption
  • Bonus DC Universe animated original movie, Batman: Gotham Knight

Ooh, another statue. Surely it's getting to the stage where we could do with useful branded clobber and gadgets rather than yet more figurines to clutter up our shelves and repel members of the opposite sex with? Just our two cents - but the soundtrack CD and animated movie sound great.

Always the complaints about collectors editions. If it repels that many women, stop buying them. My wife doesn't mind my clutter, except for the massive crysis 2 box that I have no idea where to put. It looks cool and not as tacky as say the balls of steel edition of duke nukem.

My issue is with the statues - which are fairly useless compared to, say, night vision goggles, an RC car or even an action figure. Or even a wallet or watch?

In fact, this might be worth a discussion thread.

I'm far too cheap to ever plump for a collector's edition. That said, statues don't really tickle my noggin, if you catch my drift? I'd rather a cape, thanks.

Or at least a pair of black pants to wear on the outside of my trousers.

That would be sweet...

I'd buy a Collectors Edition that came with a cape. Though let's face it...what you really want is an overpowered torch so you can fling the Batsignal around at night.

What about a Two-Face coin at the very least?

Have only once in my life bought a special edition of a game, and that's only because it was second hand and the lad in Gamestation informed me it was the same price as the normal one. Was a racing game (maybe forza 3) and had some rubber tyre sleeve around the box, and I think a bonus car (or early access to one).
The rubber tyre thing went straight in the bin. I don't want my nice tidy shelf of games spoiled by one that doesn't match because it's got a poxy bit of molded rubber around it.

Bonus stuff in game is okay, but not really significant, as publishers know there'd be uproar if bonus content from a special edition gave a player any real advantage.

I'm definitely not interested in having figurines, replica guns, booklets of concept art, soundtrack albums, night vision goggles, or anything like that. That stuff's all a bit sad really, isn't it...

Well my GF insisted on me wearing my masterchief helmet during sex! So there!

Oh no wait...Sh*t... ;)

I like the 2 face coin idea but Asylum CE came with a batarang and mount stand I thought that was cool. But not £60 cool. Unless you know it was fully functioning. ;)

@RiKx: Pics or GTFO. :P That's a NSFW Daily Bite right there! Seriously, though, yes - the Asylum CE was fairly nifty but us Europeans didn't receive the proper leather bound book. And the batarang wasn't capable of taking anyone down.

I've stuck up a discussion thread about CEs in case you guys want to get involved.
