Frostbite 3! Guns! Pre-Order DLC!
After teasing us mercilessly, DICE have finally blown the lid off Battlefield 4 with an enormous trailer and screenshots. Set in Shanghai, this Frostbite 3-powered shooter is set to offer some truly gorgeous graphics on PC and current-gen consoles this Autumn.
Get it all after the break.
The singleplayer trailer, Fishing In Baku, shows player character Recker shooting people with guns. However, the star of the show is undoubtedly Frostbite 3, which DICE describe as a "new standard for interactive entertainment."
Gosh. Shiny and generic stuff. Sounds about right. However, the plot thickens, since apparently numerous "mutiplayer game design elements" have ostensibly been incorporated into the campaign, while a retooled BattleLog will keep you competing.
"Battlefield 4 is a seminal moment for the Battlefield series as more award-winning, multiplayer game design elements are incorporated into the single-player campaign. In single-player, gamers will experience huge environments, a playground of destruction, access to an arsenal of vehicles and the ability to direct squad mates. Taking a page from the social aspect of multiplayer gaming, the single-player mode will now track players’ progress, adding an element of persistence and friendly competition to the campaign."
Just let us fly the damn jet this time.
In terms of platforms, Battlefield 4 has been confirmed for an "Autumn 2013" release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The Wii U, sadly, won't be getting a look-in. EA has yet to announce next-gen plans, which does suggest that they might be holding off until Microsoft makes their move (fanning the flames under rumours of a strategic EA/Microsoft partnership).
EA has also announced that pre-order customers will receive a "Premium DLC pack," while Origin Digital Deluxe customers will get access to the beta. Erm, we'd perhaps suggest holding off until they actually tell us what's in the DLC pack beyond "in-game items." Or they show us some multiplayer.
So, there it is. Battlefield 4 is heavily tipped to feature land, air and naval battles if the teaser site is anything to go by, and we'll doubtlessly learn more throughout the year. Stay tuned, and let us know what you made of that gorgeous yet vapid footage.
