You wake up face down in a pool of water 10 years after the events of the first game, to discover that you're Subject Delta, a prototype Big Daddy, who immediately starts to seek out his Little Sister. Subject Delta has a particular useful trick up his sleeve that we've not seen before and that's the ability to dual wield plasmids and weapons, which provides you with some pretty varied ways to take care of your enemies. You've got a new rival in the form of Sofia Lamb, but you'll be assisted by Dr. Tenenbaum, and there a number of other characters from the previous game that crop up every now and again, even if it is only in the form of audio diaries, which are still scattered around the place.
Whilst the story isn't anywhere near as enthralling as the original, the gameplay is a vast improvement. The battles you face are much bigger and it's easy to get bogged down by splicers, if you haven't taken the time to check out your surrounding and lay down a few traps beforehand. You're pretty evenly matched against the Big Daddies you come across, however the Big Sister is a formidable foe that'll throw everything at you, plasmids, weapons, and even herself in some viscous, lightning fast charges. I loved being able to use the Big Daddy's signature drill and rivot gun, and I thought it was definitely a good decision that the majority of Delta's armoury is brand new.
The multiplayer is great fun to take part in, as you charge around the halls of Rapture prior to its civil war, destroying those that you come across whilst trying to hold onto a Little Sister for as long as possible.
If you're a fan of the first game then you'll love this instalment of the series, especially now that its price has dropped to under £10.
