BioShock Infinite PC Version Detailed, Minspecs Announced

Graphical Bells & Whistles Galore

Irrational Games have posted an in-depth look at the PC version of BioShock Infinite, which absolutely floored us when we saw preview builds in action over the last two years. Not only can we reveal the minimum and recommended specifications, but it appears that Irrational have gone to town when it comes to giving PC owners extra bang for their buck in the feature department with DX11 support, cloud saves, full-resolution texture installs and FOV adjustment for starters.

"Fifteen years ago, Irrational Games got its start making PC games, and the PC gaming experience has always been near and dear to our hearts," explained technical director Chris Kline in a new Irrational Insider blog post. "But it’s been a long time since we released the original BioShock, and PC gamers have come to expect a lot more for their money. So it’s understandable that you might be wondering: Will BioShock Infinite treat you right? Read on to find out what’s in store for the PC version, and you be the judge."

BioShock Infinite will sport six preset graphics settings from Very Low to Ultra, naturally also giving us the option to tinker with advanced custom settings. Though it will run on DX10, DX11-compatible graphics cards will allow you to make the most of the contact-hardening dynamic shadows, diffusion depth of field, high definition ambient occlusion and optimised anti-aliasing. You'll also be able to mess around with V-sync and FOV options.

If you want to enjoy BioShock Infinite in its full graphical splendour, "unadulterated" full-resolution textures are available in the box as a three DVD install. Weighty, but probably worth it (the recommended specs suggest that you'll need 30GB of hard disc space).

The Steam version will feature cloud saves so that you can pick up where you left off if you have a desktop and gaming laptop.

If you're into widescreen or multi-monitor gaming, BioShock Infinite will ship with 'horizonal plus' widescreen support and compatibility with AMD Eyefinity, NVIDIA Surround and Matrox TripleHead2Go. It'll also be fully optimised for Steam Big Picture Mode.

When it comes to specifications, Irrational have apparently attempted to make BioShock Infinite as scalable as possible. Here are the all-important details:

  • OS: Windows Vista Service Pack 2 32-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 DUO 2.4 GHz / AMD Athlon X2 2.7 GHz
  • Memory: 2 GB
  • Hard Drive: 20 GB free
  • Video Card: DirectX10 Compatible ATI Radeon HD 3870 / NVIDIA 8800 GT / Intel HD 3000 Integrated Graphics

  • Hard Drive: 30 GB free
  • Video Card: DirectX11 Compatible, AMD Radeon HD 6950 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560
  • Video Card Memory: 1024 MB

By the looks of things, BioShock Infinite will probably be at its best on PC. No surprises there then, but we'll find out whether Irrational's long-awaited shooter lives up to the hype on March 26th.
