BioWare Talk Up Potential For Mass Effect Spin-Offs

The Shepard trilogy may be at an end, but the universe of Mass Effect is enormous. And with so many richly-drawn characters out there, and stories waiting to be told, it's no wonder that some of the development team have been talking up the potential for spin-offs.

"There's so much that could be told in the Mass Effect universe," creative director Casey Hudson said. "It'd be cool to do something completely unrelated to the larger storyline, like a story about a private investigator on the Citadel. Or maybe something detailing Garrus' time in C-Sec."

Level designer Dusty Everman agreed that Garrus would be a prime choice: "While being one of Shepard's most loyal friends, Garrus has also had some of the most driven personal goals. He's a hero in his own right, as Archangel and beyond. Who wouldn't want to see the further adventures of the bold, charming Garrus Valkarian (there's a lot of guns out there to calibrate)."

Lead designer Preston Watamaniuk looked more towards the Krogan end of the spectrum, suggesting that "a game centred on brutal Krogan combat with more of a melee focus could be pretty exciting", and producer Mike Gamble focused in on From Ashes' Javik.

Writer Mac Walters was somewhat indecisive: "Aria. The Illusive Man. Kai Leng. Any henchman. The list goes on. I think most of them could have successful spin-offs of their own in some fashion."

Which character from the Mass Effect universe would you like to see get their own spin-off?

I'd love to see Javik get his own spin-off, filling in the story from before the fall of the Prothean civilisation. He was definitely the best new character in ME3, such a shame it was overshadowed by the day 1 DLC controversy
