Birthday Blowout: Win An iPad!!

NB. Please note that this competition is now CLOSED! No more entries will be considered. Entries will be judged by the Dealspwn staff this weekend and a shortlist will be created. From that shortlist the winners will be decided upon next week. Thank you to all of you who've entered, and the very best of luck to you all!

Yes, that's right folks! Dealspwn is officially one year old! To celebrate this illustrious occasion and to thank you guys and girls who pop along to the site each day and give our roles some meaning, it's time for another opportunity to bag yourselves some free stuff. However, it's a big occasion, so we're going to be holding a big competition and, as everybody knows, in order to do that you need a Big Fat Prize.

So we thought we'd give you lot the chance to win an iPad!!

Try as I might to hate the thing, as a gaming platform it's actually rather good. In fact, some of the games that have been coming out for the super-sized iPhone are so good that I've actually given some serious thought to selling my soul on eBay and using the proceeds to actually hand over money for one. Thankfully, if you win this competition you won't even have to do that and will be the proud owner of the trendiest piece of kit on the planet without having to spend a penny.

Of course, we can't just give one away. That would be incredibly boring, so we've set a little task for entry: designing a game cover. Check out the guidelines below to see how you can get in on the anniversary excitement.

How To Enter - Designing A Game Cover

Right, before you all panic, let's spell out exactly what we're looking for. We'll provide you with a template for a video game case, all we need you to do is design a cover for the game of your dreams. It can be anything you want, in any format you want. So if you want to take an existing game cover and Photoshop the hell out of it then by all means go ahead. If you want to grab an HB pencil and sketch something before scanning it and sending it to us the do it. Fancy making a cover collage out of abandoned SEGA titles? Why not.You could even send us a drunken scrawl on a beer mat if you really wanted, but we'd probably just use them for their original purpose.

So...in a few easy steps...

  1. Think of an awesome game you wish existed, it can be a play on something that's already out there or something from the depths of your imagination, we don't mind.
  2. Think up a kickass title!
  3. Create a cover for the game - Photoshop, sketch, paint, build etc. You can download a template here.
  4. Save your masterpiece as a digital picture (if it's actually tangible then either take a picture of it or scan it in)
  5. Upload the picture to Image Shack (no registration required)
  6. Post a link to your picture in the comments section using a valid email account!

First Prize: iPad

4 x Runners-up: £25 Amazon voucher

There are a few steps there, but then it is a Big Fat Prize!

It is very important to note here that we're not looking for technical proficiency. Aesthetics are nice but not everyone's going to be a Photoshop whizz kid and we know it. So what we're really looking for is something inventive, a game that might make us laugh or gasp or wee a little with excitement.

The competition will run for two weeks, only one entry per person and all entries must be in by July 2nd 2010.

Check out all of the entries by clicking here and heading over to the gallery on Flickr.

Good luck!

Here's my submission. Nice and topical i think you'll agree!

Very topical indeed :)

tommy  Jun. 18, 2010 at 22:13

like this?

Aidan Gartland  Jun. 19, 2010 at 13:16

I already submitted mine but for some reason imageshack isn't loading the image at all so here it is again hosted on photobucket

Aidan Gartland  Jun. 19, 2010 at 13:17

Actually mods, ignore that last one, imageshack is working again now, sorry about that.

Matt Gardner  Jun. 19, 2010 at 13:38

Yup. It can be anything you like, from a completely new concept or a play on an existing game or franchise. You can take inspiration from anywhere, doesn't just have to be games. If you can see American Pie as a kickass Leisure Suit Larry style point-and-click spin off, or a Wii title with a pie accessory...design it. Or maybe Wii Sports: OAPs with bowls and tiddlywinks and knitting. If you pick a DS or Wii case you could go for absolutely anything thanks to their luscious shovelware support...like Pro Shoelace Tying!....Mmmm satire

Of course those are just off the top of my head, you guys have a fortnight :)

here's my entry:

and here's the blurb from the back of the case, just to give you a flavour of what the game is like....:

"From the makers of 'The Googlinator' and 'Internet Explorer: The Game' Comes 'DealsPWNED', an action-packed FPS which takes you around to world to locations like a Game store, a Gamestation Store, HMV, Amazon, Zavvi, and many more. Your mission, should you choose to accept it: to pwn the hottest deals imaginable, and by any means necessary.
Armed only with your trusty Pricebuster, will you be man enough to hunt the rarest, baddest deals and make it out alive? If you use all the tools at your disposal, including internet tip-offs, steam weekend deals, discount codes and just plain ol' hard work, you might just survive DEALSPWNED: THE GAME."

Enjoy! and apologies for my atrocious photoshop skills. like, really atrocious.

Here's my Game cover, In the style of 80's game covers :)

I decided to make up a game that I would like to play, I kind of get into it to much and thought id Include the basic concept for the game ( sad )

I'd say its a FPS Adventure:

It starts with waking up in hospital after a radioactive spill from a power plant and you get this "visitor" who helped you survive, he tells you to find the keys to the bright white door :P

so you go through time starting at Jurassic period, looking for pieces of this key solving puzzles, once you touch/find the key it jumps you through time and space to the next location, kinda like that epic Quantum Leap tv show.

You travel through playable times like the the Dark ages, Samurai era, Cowboy, 1950's mobster current day and the future...basically and epic journey, that will probably be impossible to make.

If only it was available to buy! I'd never be off my XBox. Well, unless I got a new iPad of course, that might tempt me away :->

Jenny McCann  Jun. 22, 2010 at 14:58

Meant to post the link! Sorry

When thinking of ideas for this competition I decided to immortalise a true British legend.

A character that stands out throughout history as being at the peak fitness and compassion, this man is...

Hopefully the reference will not miss the mark as i would really like a prize, particularly a nice one.

Here's my entry, based on the greatest movie ever. :)

Jenny McCann  Jun. 22, 2010 at 18:43

Slightly modified with reference to Capello - how could I forget!

DragonChris  Jun. 22, 2010 at 22:00

LOL! Loving the Doug Theft Auto :p

Smith  Jun. 22, 2010 at 22:13

Seeing as everyones submissions are being made public, will you take into consideration the date is was posted?
Obviously earlier submitters have little to compare against, whereas people on 1 July will have looked at everyone's submission and at least made an attempt to be more creative.

numptyj  Jun. 22, 2010 at 22:45

Here is my entry :)

Emma Kelly  Jun. 22, 2010 at 22:56

Not really, you can choose to submit it right at the end of the competition if you want to.

WalnutSoap  Jun. 22, 2010 at 22:58

Here's the first thing that sprung to mind:

WalnutSoap  Jun. 22, 2010 at 23:02

Oh bums, just noticed a similar one :/

WalnutSoap  Jun. 22, 2010 at 23:34

Since that one is so similar to the first one posted by someone else, can I instead submit this one?
