Black Ops 2 Confirmed For November, Screenshots Leak Out

Official Reveal Set For This Afternoon

Activision and Treyarch have formally announced that this year's Call Of Duty title will be Black Ops 2 - and it's scheduled for a November 13th worldwide release. Which will come as a surprise to absolutely no-one whatsoever. A full reveal is set for this evening according to the new official site, though the brusque story details suggests that Black Ops 2 will take place in a 21st century "cold war where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare."

It seems that Activision might have gotten slightly ahead of themselves, especially since the reveal trailer is currently set to 'private.' However, a couple of screenshots have leaked out (which were hastily pulled) - check them out below.

Ah, CoD time.

Where did we go so wrong? CoD 1 and 2 were 2 of the best shooters ever... CoD 4: MW was fantastic, MW2 could have been the best shooter ever but was sadly let down by IWnet on the PC... it litterally ruined a great game.

What is this one going to be like?!

Well, BF2142 was an amazing game, so this slightly futuristic game could work out ace.

To pull this off they are going to need a new engine, which I am not sure that have yet, given the short time since Black Ops 1 and all the DLC they have been busy pumping out... so I sadly expect a bodged existing engine to be the driving force behind this game.

They also need to have learnt from Black Ops 1 that you lose a LOT of respect if you release a game that is not playable on day one! Given this, I certainly wont be pre-ordering this time (first CoD title not to). I will wait and see USER reviews, as with MW3 critics seemed to love it but it was rightly slated by users.

All good comments. I too, am getting sick of seeing the constantly rehashed Quake 4 engine (yes, thats right!) of the COD games. Although they do a great job with what they have, and it relatively still looks great, its an old engine.

I guess the obvious answer is for them to move on to ID Tech 5 (Rage... Potentially the best looking console game released by a mile). But again, whether or not they have the time and skills to build on the ID Tech 5 engine to suit the CoD universe (ID had no real physics built into the basic engine if I remember rightly, which is their biggest issue) is another matter.

I'd love to see BOPS2 on ID Tech 5 with much improved physics, or even another engine that would support some real, non scripted environment destruction.

ID Tech 5 is an amazing looking engine for sure... would be great.

The Frostbyte 2 engine is amazing, so they will be going up against that.

Also, Cryengine 3.

And Unreal Engine 3.

Basically, if they dont do something new they are going to be so far behind the mark it will be a joke.

The problem they have, is that CoD demands silk smooth, 60fps gameplay. With no exceptions. ID are the only ones that seem capable of building an engine which looks decent, that will do that.

Just a shame that the physics in their engines suck.

They have probably been working on this since Blops came out, so could have a significantly rejigged engine. Mw3 would be so much better with better maps.
Totally agree that MW2 could have been epic! Its still one of my favourite games for years though. But it is so flawed.
Agreed that it does need to move on, while the opposition have taken massive strides, don't think cod can strangle much more out of its current capers!

MW3 was just pants. Lame engine, lame level design. Absolutely no innovation so why not just play the already out MW2.

It's one thing to relase a new CoD title every year, it's another to expect people to like it if it is exactly the same as the last one.
