Can Call of Duty be stopped? Activision's annualized blockbuster has shattered yet another record, with the latest edition Black Ops becoming the top-selling UK game of all time. It bested step-sibling, Modern Warfare 2, which up until now had held the crown. No stranger to rampant success, Black Ops earned a massive 650 million dollars within five days when it was released in November of last year.
"This is an outstanding achievement for the development team at Treyarch and the amazing Call of Duty community," enthuses Activision's UK MD, Andrew Brown. Cumulative UK sales of Black Ops reached 3,722,411 according to GfK ChartTrack, exceeding Modern Warfare 2's haul of 3,702,410 copies.
It's a phenomenal figure, even for Call of Duty. Black Ops is expected to hit almost twenty million copies by the end of the year, and expectation is high for the eight entry in the series; Modern Warfare 3. Developed by Infinity Ward in conjunction with upstart studio, Sledgehammer Games, MW3 is set for release in Call of Duty's comfortable November slot this year. Matt got hands-on with the title last month. [MCVUK]
