It's one of those things that provokes the reaction "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" There've been quite a few instances like that over the past few years, not least because crowdfunding has made realising dreams without a publisher or multi-stringed investments a legitimate possibility provided you've done your homework. I had that reaction when the Double Fine Adventure was first announced (and again when Grim Fandango HD was revealed at E3), when David Braben announced that a new Elite game was on its way, when Nintendo surprised everyone by breathing life into Bayonetta.
For horror fans, the prospect of a Silent Hill game developed under the watchful gaze of Hideo Kojima and Guillermot Del Toro is pretty special, and the duo announced it in one of the most original ways we've seen in a long time -- with a teaser demo launched at Gamescom on PS4, simply titled P.T.
It's damn scary, as this video of me embarrassing myself will testify.
Wow so I watched someone play through that Silent Hills trailer and all he did was walk down a hallway for 10 minute and I was so tense

With Silent Hills now out in the open (courtesy initially of Soapywarpig) the excitement really began to ratchet up.

MY BODY WAS NOT READY FOR THIS #SILENTHILLS NEWS AS I LANDED IN VEGAS

Just in case no-one got the gist of P.T., and what the developers were hoping to do with Silent Hills, Kojima helpfully spelled things out.

There were a few sceptics and some feelings of ambivalence...
I'm looking forward to "Silent Hills". I just hope it really doesn't end up like the last few installments...

You put the Silent Hills disc in and it's actually Del Toros Hobbit films.

Imagine the rage if Silent Hills is iOS8 exclusive on the iPhone 6
— Jeremy Conrad (@ManaByte) August 12, 2014
But for the most part, everyone forgot that the brand has slipped into mediocrity over the last few games. After all...KOJIMA AND DEL TORO!
I'm seriously losing it. #SilentHills is EXACTLY what I've wanted, it's what the fans want, and this reveal was just too goddamn clever.

Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro, and Norman Reedus are taking a crack at one of my favorite horror series? DUDE. Count me in. #SilentHills

P.T. is a masterpiece...and it's only a demo. I can't wait for Silent Hills!
— O-Matic™ (@O_Matic91) August 15, 2014
In fact, one games personality got a little overexcited...
— Jessica Chobot (@JessicaChobot) August 13, 2014
The name began to spawn some rather amusing reactions...
I hope Silent Hills is to Silent Hill what Aliens was to Alien. Hundreds of Silent Hills, charging at space marines. And a Silent Hill Queen
— Jim Sterling (@JimSterling) August 13, 2014
Silent Hills is the Dark Souls of Silent Hill games.

"hello i'd like to buy silent hills" "of course" *puts 20 copies of ps1 'silent hill' on counter*
— tortoiseontour (@tortoiseontour) August 13, 2014
Silent Hills = plural scariness
— Wario64 (@Wario64) August 13, 2014
But if it seemed unoriginal, well...
Silent Hills: Because when you can attach Kojima, Del Toro, and Reedus to a project, there's no reason to bother thinking up a better name.
