A Boy and his Blob £7.96 @ My Memory [Wii Games]

If you're looking for a bit of updated NES nostalgia that's presented as a lighthearted cartoon caper about a child and his shapeshifting alien friend, then you might want to check this out.

NB. Remember to use the following code to purchase the game at the advertised price: LAST20

You can grab a copy on the Wii for £7.96 from My Memory, which'll make you a saving of almost £1.50 on the next best price of £9.32 coming in from Tesco Entertainment.

Now, if you've not played the original game you might be asking yourself what course of events led to these two little scamps joining forces? The Blob, who is a peace loving fellow unlike the monstrous Hollywood creature of the same name, runs away from his home planet Blobolonia after it's taken over by an evil emperor and he recruits the Boy to help overthrow the dastardly dictator after his ship crash lands on Earth.

The gameplay goes back to classic 2D platform format and the levels are riddled with puzzles that you need to overcome by taking advantage of the Blob's hand ability to turn into useful items. Getting the Blob to change form couldn't be simpler as all you need to do is throw him a jellybean, so it's a good job he came across a child who's got an unlimited supply of the sugary treats.

High definition graphics have almost become a prerequisite to new releases these days, so it's a nice change to see a title that's presented through some wonderful hand drawn animation.

This is a nice little game that doesn't require too much thought and the development of the relationship between the two title characters is great fun to watch.
