Tim Schafer's loving tribute to all things heavy and metal is a short but sweet affair. It received far more hype than any of his previous endeavours but, like virtually anything else foolishly scheduled for release in recent weeks, has been slightly lost in the hype miasma surrounding the new Call of Duty.
Happily this means that Gamestation are offering up a bargain of epic rock proportions, as they are asking just £22.99 for Brütal Legend, on either the PS3 or the 360. The next best price I have found for either console is £27.95 from Shop To (XBox 360, PS3), and even used copies are going for even more in most places, so you stand to make at least a good £5 saving!

Drawing together a huge accumulation of the songs and cultural elements of the genre and lacing them through the game in a number of surprising and highly effective ways, Brütal Legend always feels genuine and filled with affection. This also makes for a game which is highly entertaining and, in the main, a joy to play.
The story and the characters (charmingly realised in their striking graphical style) are what really make the game shine and, while it helps, you don't need to be a rock fan to enjoy Brütal Legend. Sadly it is let down slightly by its repetitive and samey side missions which quickly lose their appeal and the fact that the main mission (which maintains its high quality far more effectively) is really rather short.
