Never has a racing game satisfied your desire for wanton destruction quite like Burnout. Now, with Burnout: Paradise going for just £12.98 from Coolshop – next best price comes in at £17.73 – prepare for a vast new open-world format to explore, marvel at, and yes, completely annihilate.
This hails a departure from the usual, slightly more specific, arcade style of previous Burnout editions. However, given that Burnout has overawed the critics at practically every turn – attaining an editor’s choice award on Gamespot who awarded it 9/10 – it’s clear that this new direction for the franchise has been nothing but a roaring success. Although the huge open-world format can be somewhat overwhelming for new players given the sheer amount to explore, the in game tutorials do a decent job familiarizing the player with all the various events which are dotted around Paradise City.
These are, particularly regarding the races, so concentrated that, should you fail one, chances are you’ll be right near a new starting point and can just drive straight onto another. However if you don’t feel like racing or doing time trails you can simply rush round destroying billboards or having a crack at totally insane, but highly entertaining, Showtime mode. Like Crash Mode, the idea is to attain cash bonuses by creating as much damage as humanly possible. In terms of pure fun and entertainment, racing games don’t get much better.
