The sound of Guns'n'Roses comes blaring out of the speakers, the sun is glinting off of your windshield, the tropical haze warps into a blur as you hit the boost and the bullet time kicks in as a bus smashes into the left wing of your hot rod. That's right, ladies and gents, it's Burnout time. Paradise sees an open world aspect applied to the fierce and fast racing template of previous instalments, with the additional content seeing the introduction of bikes for the first time in the series.
If you've been holding off on dipping your toes into the nitrous-blended waters of Paradise then today might be the day that changes. The EA Store is offering Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box for just a paltry £5! There's a catch, though, this is a limited time offer only and is due to end today! If you do decide to take advantage of this wallet-friendly offer, you'll be saving yourself around a tenner on the nearest competitor (Coolshop - £14.84).
I love Burnout Paradise: a series stalwart, I readily consider this to be the best one so far, which is handy for PC owners has it's technically the first Burnout game to appear on the platform.
So what can you expect? Well, speed that will melt your eyeballs for starters. Burnout is all about crazy speed, ridiculous jumps, manic drift, and causing 50+ vehicle pile-ups. The free-roaming aspect of the game works really well, allowing for lengthy plays as well as quick five minute bursts of virtual tyre shredding.
One big criticism I had for this game originally was the lack of split screen multiplayer, but on the PC that really isn't too much of a problem. You can still hotseat with the included Party Pack add-on for some Tony Hawk-style Horse shenanigans, but otherwise it's all online, and there's a wealth of options to choose from incorporating the speed, stunt and Marked Man tasks found in the single player.
I can't recommend Burnout Paradise enough. I've already burnt radial smears into two of my discs on my Xbox and I keep coming back for more. Whether you just want to go really fast without having to tinker away with a million and one little options and have a blast, or if you just fancy seeing how expensive a crash you can cause on an interchange, Burnout Paradise will satisfy most of your needs for extreme motoring.
