Should I buy FIFA or PES this year?

loved PES 4,5 and 6 but really liked FIFA 9 and 10. Wasn't too keen on either last year.

We will be posting up a buyers' guide on this one, but it's almost as if the two have swapped places. PES 2012 is a fast paced affair, with FIFA really slowing things down this year. The latter's emphasis on defence has created a FIFA title that plays completely differently to the way it did before and offers more control on the ball than any game in the series. PES, on the other hand, offers a fantastic amount of control OFF the ball this year, which is one thing that still annoys me about FIFA. Instead of screaming in frustration at the screen that players aren't making the runs you want them to...now you can literally control two at once...it's a bit fiddly, but ever so rewarding.

Both games have negatives - aside from Ultimate Team, FIFA is pretty bland offline; and PES' presentation lets it down again (we haven't tested out PES 2012's online components enough yet).

In short, once again we have two good games that play different brands of football. Your best bet is to spend an hour playing the demo of each and see which one you get bored of first.
