Cage Wants Beyond: Two Souls To Challenge Minds, Not Thumbs

Quantic Dream's David Cage has suggested that he's far more interested in giving his audience something with "meaning" rather than something "fun".

"I don’t want to challenge their thumbs, I want to challenge their minds,” he said in a recent interview.

“My goal is to surprise people, to give them something they want without knowing they want it. I want to create an emotional journey, a unique experience," he said, chatting with EDGE

“I am not interested in giving them ‘fun’, I want to give them meaning; I don’t want to challenge their thumbs, I want to challenge their minds.”

Cage acknowledged that there might be detractors, stating that his desire could be considered ambitious, or even irrelevant, but reiterating that he'd challenged himself to create something different.

“Maybe this is irrelevant or just overly ambitious,” he said. “Maybe this is not what most people out there actually want. But this is the goal I set myself with Beyond: to create something different.”

Oh right... you wish you had made Journey too.

Making that kinda game, there is a fine line between genius and boring as hell. Good luck with that.
