Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the critically acclaimed first person shooter by Infinity Ward, is currently going for £14.99 at Gameplay. This is a full £5 cheaper than the next cheapest price for a PC version of the game.
Although COW:4 MW is not exactly a new game and its price has taken a long time to go down, this is simply a testament to its high quality and how well it continues to sell. 13 million copies have been sold between its release in 2007 and May 2009, meaning that retailers have been somewhat reluctant to dramatically lower the price.
The game itself is set in the new future where the Middle East has been further destabilised by a coup d’état and Russia stands in the midst of a Civil War. The gameplay alternates between the British SAS and American Marine Corps as the best of the West attempt to get a handle on the situation by running in all guns blazing (you would have thought they would have learnt their lesson by now).
The game received particular praise for its gameplay, story and multiplayer modes. The gameplay mechanics provide a very realistic feel when it comes to ballistics, with bullets being able to penetrate particular surfaces within the environment. The story is also highly dramatic with some great twists, but on the downside, the single player mode is disappointingly short. However multiplayer mode extends the game considerably, although to begin with, you’ll be like a noob to the slaughter...
