Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare GOTY £17.98 @ Amazon [Xbox 360 game]

If you've resisted all of the hype surrounding the Call of Duty series then at this price it's time you sampled what still is one of the most popular multiplayer shooters and offers a visceral adaptation of modern warfare in a pulse-racing FPS. If you've been living under a rock CoD4:MW, for that is what the kids like to call it, caused the most noise of all recent combat games. Unlike previous outings of the Call of Duty series, you weren't left trudging through the French countryside or freezing outside Leningrad but were thrown into a startlingly recognisable modern setting.

Its intertwined multi-threaded story throws you between stealthy missions with the SAS to full assaults riding with USMC soldiers. With a movie-style feel to the whole presentation it's one of the best told in gaming history, arguably more so than its successor Modern Warfare 2. The price has slowly been falling on CoD4:MW and this is currently its lowest price.

At under £18 if you don't own a copy of Modern Warfare now is the time to snap up a copy. The single-player game alone is reason enough to buy it, the mix of perfect gameplay, realistic environment, intense action and stunning graphics make for scarily realistic experience on the battlefield. But what most people stay for is the online multiplayer, this version of the game is still ranked as one of the most played online. Finely tuned it is the game's crowning glory and the perk system means the longer you player the more rewards you get, as you gain experience from every kill. If you haven't played Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, you haven't lived.
