Storm tropical beaches and stab kamikaze soldiers in the neck, with Call of Duty 5: World at War, available from ShopTo for just £25.99!
According to a price-comparison, ShopTo’s deal for Call of Duty 5: World at War is the cheapest offer available! It sold millions upon release, but World at War divided critics, some confused with the abrupt return to WW2, others revelling in the spectacular set-pieces and rewarding multiplayer. It averaged an 85/100 on MetaCritic, with GameChronicles remarking “a shooter so satisfying and complete you won't care what war it is you're fighting”.
World at War returns the Call of Duty series to its WW2 roots, following the fourth installment’s modern setting. As per usual, you command two soldiers from different countries; a US Marine deployed to Japan, and an infantryman from the Soviet Red Army. The Marine’s story, in particular, is compelling, as the Pacific Theatre is a relatively fresh experience, with the tropical vistas and kamikaze ambushes a far cry from the cobbled roads and industrial buildings so prevalent in most WW2 games.
Call of Duty is renowned for its multiplayer, which averages millions of users each and every day. It’s an established system now, with you deployed into a variety of matches, from free-for-alls to more tactical affairs. Every kill, successful objective or completed challenge earns you experience, upgrading your character’s skills and broadening his weapon arsenal. World at War also featured a co-operative campaign, with teams of four able to do battle with the Empire of Japan.
