Call Of Duty: Ghosts Multiplayer To Be Revealed In August

According to Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin, we'll get our first look at Call Of Duty: Ghosts' multiplayer suite next month.

"Sorry I haven't been on twitter much lately," Rubin tweeted last week [via CVG]. "We are in our death march push to finish game. Lots left to do. Looking forward to MP in august."

He later followed up by confirming that the reveal will likely occur in the "middle" of the month, which could well mean that Activision are taking aim at the Gamescom expo.

So far, we know little about Ghost's multiplayer save that it will feature "dynamic map events" that change level geometry mid-match, along with "a cooperative mode of sorts." Pre-order bonuses include the Freefall multiplayer map (though I'm not entirely sure why you'd pre-order yet, to be honest).

Call Of Duty: Ghosts will release on November 5th for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Next-gen versions have been confirmed but not dated.

I'm still loving Black Ops 2. MW3 was the biggest pile of junk EVER.

So, all in all, I am excited about the potential for Ghosts and the MP reveal... but I will not be pre-ordering this. IW have got a lot to prove before they get my money again.

I personally really enjoyed mw3...the only thing that **** me off was the sit rep pro. From experience with people I've played with if they didn't have headsets and played with very little sound they stood no chance as you could be heard a mile off. Personally I think that really spoilt the experience that a lot of us have had and could have had.

Reveal? Is it really going to be anything different? Highly unlikely. New game modes? mean nothing, regardless of choice people play FFA, TDM, Domination and Search & Destroy. Other game modes are largely ignored or are a novelty at best.

I have Black Ops 2, enjoy playing it but i'm under no illusion that it is any different to MW3, BO1, MW2. Even the league games have only a handful of players making it pretty pointless. :/

I've bought all of the recent instalments on launch day, and have racked up a lot of time on multiplayer (>90% of my time is on Search & Destroy).

WaW approx 300 hours;
MW2 approx 300 hours;
BO1 302 hours;
MW3 6 hours;
BO2 180 hours so far.

At present I'd say it's unlikely I'll buy Ghosts.
IW (literally) aren't the company they once were. With COD4:MW they came up with a true masterpiece - one of the greatest games ever - and every year since has just been tweaks to that game. But Treyarch's tweaks improve the game, Infinity Ward's worsen it.

I don't think it's even that Late; I think they are still tweaking a Quake 3 engine. That's a 14 year old engine, OK, it's now tweaked beyond all recognition but still isn't it time for something new?. Isn't this why COD will always be played on small maps with limited number of players each side?.
Wouldn't it be awesome if the reveal was a whole new engine supporting 32 players a side on massive maps with vehicles. :P

True, but pedantically wrong. It's ID Tech 4, which was originally Doom 3/Quake 4. Released in about 2004 I believe.

They have already stated that CoD:Dogs (It's definitely all about the dogs, not ghosts) will be using a new engine. Whether that is once again Activision/IW rhetoric for 'modified ID Tech 4 a little bit more than usual' will come out soon enough.

But the rest of my post would have been exactly the same as Lates down to the tiniest scary details. Including the fact that I've racked up about 200-300 hours on hardcore search and destroy on the other CoDs, but got to about 5 or 6 on MW3 before I lost the will to live. Infact, I didn't even finish the single player campaign on it.

There is no way in hell I'm trusting IW with my cash up front for this. Dogs or not.

FYI: According to animation lead Zach Volker, Ghosts' engine is "significantly upgraded" as opposed to all-new.

Interesting - I'm certain that they stated somewhere in the past that it was an 'All new' engine (which I actually rolled my eyes at when I heard). It was possibly in the ps3/xbone reveal. I'd go hunt it down but can't here!

edit: Ah yeah, linked article agrees with that. So, typical activision/IW rhetoric then. IE a load of balls.

Unfortunately for them, ID aren't licensing ID Tech 5 outside of Bethesda, and to move to another engine would mean they'd struggle to make their annual releases. So instead, we get the same old bull year on year.

Xbox One/PS4 games running on the same engine that they used for xbox/PS2. Joke.

@Anarchist: You're absolutely right - the initial release definitely described the engine as "new."

I guess the pr department are more keen than the animation lead to call a new skin an all new engine.

I had the same reservations about the upgrade of the Black Ops 2 engine, but that looks and plays amazingly. Really like it. (Only down side is the sometimes painful lag-comp).

They could do some great things just by tweaking the engine... but the MW3 engine had all these promises and everyone I game with (on PC) said that MW3 looked and played worse than MW2... so much that we all went back to MW2 for our CoD fix.

Tsung: Have you not played Hard Point. It's probably my favorite mode. Love it.

Hard point? Yes, it's fun I forgot that "new" mode. When I do play the game I flick thro' the games list and it shows me the total number of people playing in that "list". Some of the modes hardly have enough players to warrant joining.

I'm happy to be corrected on the engine, it's a little unclear. 2004 Quake 4/Doom 3 engine.. fair enough.. still nearly 10 years old! :O

Every year we vow not to buy this years version; every year we eventually buckle. I don't know if it's existing players who can't get enough or new blood lapping it up. Is there ever going to be a point of saturation; when all the players have had enough and not buy into it?

So far, I have not pre-ordered this.

So far, I don't want to pre-order this.

I have not buckled... YET.

ID tech 3/4, it's not that important, I still completely agree with the actual points made. It's genuine bonkers.

I usually buckle when I see it for sale at around £26. And think 'at that price, I can try it, and get rid quick if it's garbage and not lose a penny'. As I did with black ops 1 and MW3!
