While Infinity Ward’s decision to drop dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 2 might have many gamers reeling from the PC version in disgust, this is still a very good price for the game – so long as multiplayer isn’t your main priority. Copies of Modern Warfare 2 are now going on Ebuyer for £19.99 which gives you the chance to make a nice saving as the next cheapest deal comes in at £25.24 from Tesco Entertainment.
Propelling you through some five or six hours of intense, brilliantly over the top action, Modern Warfare 2 offers an impressive single player campaign. You’ll scale snow covered Russian mountains with SAS commandos, defend the East coast of America from invasion as the US Army Rangers, and annihilate thousands of unarmed civilians at Moscow airport (great fun). On the downside, the campaign is quite short and a fairly linear affair, but the pace of the action does distract you from the choreographed nature of the missions. The lack of single-player content can be a little disappointing, but the challenge of replaying missions on a higher difficulty does let you rinse a bit of extra fun out of the campaigns.
Multiplayer is of course what makes Modern Warfare 2 really worthwhile, and this primarily what draws most customers towards the game. The experience is still there, but Infinity Ward’s decision not to allow players to create dedicated servers has really upset the PC gaming community. It means that rather than expanding above and beyond the limitations of the Xbox360 and PS3, the PC version is essentially brought down to the same level as its console counterparts. This is a definitely a good deal if you’re willing to forgive Infinity Ward for their decision, but unfortunately there are plenty of gamers who are not.
