Enjoy the recreated Wild West, replete with shanty towns and pistol duels, in Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, available from Play for just £17.99!
According to a price-comparison, Play’s deal for Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood offers a saving of over five-pounds! Delivery’s free, too. Sequel to the modestly successful Call of Juarez, Bound in Blood’s stunning Civil War-era backdrops and immersive gameplay impressed critics enough to earn an average rating of 77/100 on MetaCritic, with GameShark proclaiming it “provides one of the most memorable FPS gaming experiences of the year”.
Brothers Ray and Thomas McCall return home from fighting in the Civil War, only to be exiled for their unruly behaviour. Joined by their young brother, William, a Reverend, the McCalls lie low in Mexico. But trouble follows Ray and Thomas wherever they roam, and they soon find themselves embroiled in a bitter conflict with the infamous Bandito, Juan ‘Juarez’ Mendoza, who seeks to find the lost Aztec treasure of Cortez, with or without the brothers’ help.
It’s surprising how few Wild West games populate the shelves each year, considering how apt the era is for videogame adaptations. The sprawling, sun-baked terrain, lawless towns and abundance of gunslingers are ripe with promise. You cannot fault Call of Juarez’s recreation of the Old West, with Civil War-era Georgian forests and desert plains rendered to nigh perfection. The gunplay can be clunky, the game eventually becomes monotonous and the absence of co-op is confusing, but the superb story coupled with the wonderful aesthetic offer an experience unlike any other.
