CAVE To Focus On Social Games After Sobering Forecast

CAVE, the venerable Japanese studio behind classic SHMUPS like DoDonPachi and Deathsmiles, has announced that they'll be switching focus in the face of a 'stagnating' games market. Their latest financial statement forecasts a gloomy operating loss of 35 million yen (roughly £297,500), and to combat this, they'll be shelving development of several core projects in order to concentrate on mobile and social games for the foreseeable future. It's worth noting that CAVE have already enjoyed major success on the App Store thanks to remixed versions of their classic lineup as well as new shooters designed for the platform. Thanks to the massive manoeuvrability afforded by smartphone and tablet touchscreens, they're actually a natural new home for the genre.

Cheapo games on rubbish hardware..

It's a shame they can't keep releasing on Xbox because I don't believe it can actually cost that much once you've got a game developed.
