CAVE Woes Continue With CEO Resignation

CAVE, the legendary studio behind some of the best shoot 'em ups of all time (Deathsmiles, DoDonPachi etc), has been rocked by another high-profile departure. CEO and President Ito Masahito has resigned for unspecified personal reasons, following the resignation of COO Mikio Watanabe who also cited unspecified personal reasons requiring his undivided attention. Despite being received well by us critics, CAVE's recent output such as Deathsmiles Deluxe and DoDonPachi Resurrection failed to make much of a dent in the charts, prompting us to wonder just how well the niche developer is holding up. After being forced to focus on mobile games to mitigate some damning financial projections, the situation is looking slightly shaky to say the least.

To be fair it was a bit stupid putting Deathsmiles and DoDonPachi on 360 only, the console that most Japanese people and people into Japanese games don't have. That reminds me, Ikaruga (OK, that's Treasure not Cave) seriously needs to be on PSN or Steam by now...
