Challenge Carl | #1: Titanfall... with a joystick

Last week we asked you for your suggestions for test the gaming skills of our very own video-editing-lunatic Carl, and while some of the submissions were fantastic, and others were just plain cruel, one was just too genius to ignore. Suggested by site regular Teppic2000, it was a standard challenge with a left-field twist, providing a fairly standard goal with a dastardly handicap. So, Dealspwn is proud to present the first ever Challenge Carl - when Carl took on Titanfall with a joystick, and attempted to get into the top half of the leaderboard.

We've captured the highlights of his efforts, so witness as Carl starts off with the effectiveness of a drunken mule, and then doesn't really improve for a while. Watch as Carl celebrates at smiting his foes, crumbles when he is crushed by enemies much faster and accurate that he is, and see how he adapts in an attempt to beat the challenge. Does he succeed in our first episode? Well, you'll have to watch to find out...

A huge thanks to Teppic2000 for that brilliant first challenge! If you have any feedback on the episode, or have a suggestion of your own that you think will best Carl, let us know in the comments below!

Epic! That last death was awesome :)

Alright, I challenge you to play "The Floor is lava" with Just Cause 2. Get from one side of the island to the other without touching the ground. Rooftops and cars (so long as you don't drive) are fine.

Without wishing to post soilers...
Congrats Carl, on a fantastic effort. I swear by the end you were better with that (quite awesome) joystick than you were when using keyboard/mouse during the beta :p
How long were you playing?

@Zeipher: Glad you enjoyed it! I agree, that death was utterly brilliant. I couldn't help but say "well played" in my head to whoever did it.

I'm sure Matt will add that suggestion to the pile, but I quite like that one!

@Late: Than you, good sir. In fairness, as you pointed out at the time, my use of Titans is now more frequent ;)

In total, I had been playing for about 4-5 hours (there were quite a few games I had to cut out, including a horrifying game of Last Titan Standing :S) but there was also 4 hours of getting the joystick to work that I didn't mention in the video. As it turns out, most of the free programs out there don't do the job, and so I used [PRODUCT PLACEMENT TIME] Pinnacle Game Profiler. Thankfully it has a 20-day free trial, which I absolutely took advantage of, but it does cost to use beyond that.

It's a really useful program that allows pretty much any controller to be used with any game (and a huge thanks to Matt for pointing me in its direction when I was about to start pulling my hair out :P)

Ahoy Carl, I gotta say that I didn't expect the challenge to be quite as fiendish as it turned out to be (honest)!

Glad you had a blast, was a lot of fun to watch.

The last death had me laughing out loud, so close yet so far.
