CLOSED: Christmas Competition Day 5: Treasure Hunt

Don't worry if you've only just noticed we've been running competitions for the best part of a week. You can still nab yourself an Amazon voucher for the next few days.

Check out the competition launch post for full details. You'll have to be fast too. As before, the first five correct entries to come in will win. Let the games begin!

We're branching out a bit today with a treasure hunt of sorts, and here's how to get involved:

  1. Below are seven questions. Each question is related to some of our favourite TV shows.
  2. For each question, if you type the answer into the search bar and hit 'Enter' it'll come up with a single post result.
  3. If you look within that post (you'll need to view the whole thing for longer posts) you'll find a letter that looks like this:CLOSED: Christmas Competition Day 5: Treasure Hunt
  4. Once you've found all seven letters, rearrange them to spell the name of a long-running video game franchise
  5. Email that name into [email protected]

Example Question: Who plays Liz Lemon in 30 Rock?

  • Answer: Tina Fey
  • Search Results: http://www.dealspwn.com/?s=tina+fey
  • Click on the article's title to reveal the full post.
  • Scroll down the article and you'll see the letter 'D', as above, towards the bottom of the post.

NB. Please make sure you double check the house rules below, especially the conditions for entry. We will not accept second submissions so make sure you get it right first time!

  1. Zachary Levi made an appearance in Fallout: New Vegas recently, but he also stars in geek-turned-spy comedy drama Chuck as the title character. Who plays Chuck's best friend Morgan Grimes?
  2. Halo 3: ODST saw a bit of a Firefly love-in, with both Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin making appearances. But which other main actor from Joss Whedon's series, famed for supporting roles in Dodgeball, I, Robot and A Knight's Tale, starred in Bungie's game as Mickey?
  3. There aren't enough funny games out there today, and we rather think that Channel 4's Peep Show would make for an excellent, calamitous adventure game. David Mitchell stars as Mark Corrigan, but who plays Jeremy in this long-running cringefest?
  4. Gamers will know John DiMaggio as the voice of Marcus Fenix, but he'll always have a place in our hearts for playing sarcastic robot Bender in Futurama. Who created the animated comedy series?
  5. Freddie Rodriguez, legend that he is, had a cameo in Saints Row as well as starring in Planet Terror and funereal black comedy Six Feet Under? Who played Brenda Chenowith in the latter?
  6. Stephen Fry, national treasure that he is, did plenty of stuff before introducing gamers to LittleBigPlanet like Blackadder and QI and mucking about with Hugh Laurie a lot. Speaking of which, in which series did Fry appear as a sage and wise butler to Laurie's upper class, well meaning twit?
  7. Famed for dealing with extra-terrestrials, not to mention voicing Ethan Cole in Area 51, who plays troubled novelist Hank Moody in Californication?

House Rules:

  • Only one entrant per household
  • UK entrants only
  • You must include your name and mailing address in the email response otherwise your entry will not be counted
  • Ensure your entry is suitable before you email as we will ONLY accept your first entry

The winners will be notified by email and revealed as soon as possible each day with prizes being calculated and issued at the end of the week. Additionally, the five winners each day will get a bonus entry into the Super Awesome Mega Christmas Prize Draw at the end of the week. Good luck!

We've had a few wrong answers already... please read the post carefully to be in with a chance of winning :)

Rob Proietti  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:09

Don't believe this, missed out an entire question! *Sigh* My bad.

Andrew  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:10

Again you managed to confuse me, I just sent the answers in which isn't what is asked I skipped down to the questions. I think it would have been better to give 1 hr and then select 5 people at random. This is just too confusing to read everything and answer quickly.

Emma Kelly  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:12

The competition is the way it is. If you read the post and follow the rules, it's not hard... !

Rob Proietti  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:14

Ah, after reading your comment, I also realise I've done it incorrectly too.
I guess we can only blame ourselves for not reading it properly...

Adam2050  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:14

No.6 is hard. Think I may have gotten that wrong.

Not sure what some of the questions have to do with gaming.

Jaffo  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:15

Done it but I was very slow this time :(

Misterel  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:16

I was almost foxed by needing to expand the full post to see the letters on longer pages :)

Andrew  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:17

I get what you're saying, I didn't read the rules but you make it so difficult by announcing the winners and saying stuff like "some of you raced in there in under 90 seconds!" and "The results are in, some of you very quick off of the mark indeed!". Then everyone panics, I understand that's the rules but the way you have set it up is likely to result in mistakes.

Jaffo  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:18

Yeah, that's what did me! :)

hodsey77  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:20

Well I hope I've done it right :S

Good job I was at home and on the laptop for this one - entered the others by my mobile... would have had no chance, lol!

cookiemonster83  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:23

Got mine in at 20:11, I'd be shocked if I'd won.

Adam2050  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:25

Got to say this is the worst one so far, answers I gave made no game up in the end. Strange, if the entries were all accepted with no time limit this comp would be a lot fairer and probably have a lot more entries. Stick to the twitter comps, as this clearly has little to do with gaming.

Emma Kelly  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:25

Each competition is different too - today's took people a lot longer to get the answers. We made you work for this one :)

Melinda  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:26

You'll all be happy to know that I didn't bother today :)

Emma Kelly  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:26

Adam, we're not going to do the same type of competition over and over again, we need a bit of variety :)

Hector  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:26

I think you should announce the wrong winners again. It will be very funny!

Adam2050  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:27

Ah I get you know it was overcomplex for a reason I suppose.

Emma Kelly  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:28

Marking this one as closed, I have lots of people with the right answer. Will be announcing the winners at 9pm plus updating you on yesterday's contest.

hodsey77  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:31

"...plus updating you on yesterday's contest"

Ooh! That sounds intriguing! Hope you are gonna give all those announced as winners the prizes :D

Adam2050  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:31

Indeed, but put a little more thought into content, so far two of these mini comps have been game related, this one was complex in a rush and had nothing to do about anything. :) Sorry to say that.

Andrew  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:36

I like the variety in the competitions, I appreciate you giving away prizes to the community. But I've never in my life sent so many wrong answers in to a competition (2 so far) because of the speed of entries. I sent in right answers in 30-40 seconds and didn't win and I can tell you for a fact if Id read the entire rules for that one I would have had even less of a chance. Why can't you put up the rules/what is expected from the competition before each actual competition so we all have the same idea of what to do and don't have to speed read everything to even stand a slight chance.

gari189  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:37

Emma - whilst you're about can you give more info about the prize draw?

Are only the winners from the 7 days competitions entered? If so, do they get an entry for each win or is their name entered only once no matter how many times they’ve won?
Or does everyone who has entered the comps get an entry? If so do they get an entry for each comp they’ve entered or just a single entry no matter how many comps have been entered?

Emma Kelly  Dec. 5, 2010 at 20:43

For the super mega awesome prize draw at the end of these 7 days, each winner each day will have received a bonus entry into the contest. If they won twice, they'd have 2 bonus entries. All other Dealspwners will be able to enter too.

We'll explain better in the final post on the day of the super awesome comp.
