Civilization Revolution & Dungeon Defenders are this month's Xbox Live Gold freebies

Microsoft have revealed this month's selection of 'Games With Gold' for Xbox Live Gold members to freely download and keep forever. Civilization Revolution is your current kickback, which is available to download right now from the Xbox Live Marketplace. The 4X console adaptation met with universal critical acclaim... admittedly back in 2008.

Grab it while you can, because XBLA title Dungeon Defenders will replace it from March 16th. This is no bad thing, though, because Trendy Entertainment's RPG/tower defence hybrid is utterly sensational, and deserves to get a fresh new influx of players onto its servers.

As always, be sure to let us know what you make of the selection - and whether you think Microsoft is successfully competing with PlayStation Plus.

If I'm being honest about Dungeon Defenders, we lost a lot of hours to that game. It was fun to level up, trying to survive longer each playthrough, getting good equipment, gaining more money, etc. etc. Then we realised that we'd spent 190-odd hours on it in the space of 2 months. And, it would never stop. When approaching the Nightmare levels, we knew we'd be grinding for a very long time to take them on.

At this point, we downed tools and never went back. When people talk of game addiction, I think we knew that's what this game had brought to us. I'm just happy to know that we realised this before getting any deeper.

@imdurc: Well done - sometimes it's better to walk away. ;)

If I'm honest, the games with gold isn't a reason to get gold, it's just a bonus. I have gold to play with friends and because, frankly, without online play most console games' re-playability is severely lacking.

Civilisation won't even warrant a download, when you have Civ 5 on PC (and apologies if this is a little harsh but), why would you opt for a dumbed down version with an inferior interface?

Dungeon defenders sounds refreshing though. Even if imdurc's anecdote suggests my career progression will entirely halt this month. I'm eager to see it!

Don't waste your time with dungeon defenders.

As imdurc says, it takes a LOT of time. And there are two issues with this. One, pretty much everybody who plays it online hacks, or has hacked items. And as a lot of the game is pretty much impossible on solo, unless you have friends to play with all the time online who don't hack, you will struggle to ever get a decent game.

And two, after I'd finished grinding for weeks to get level all my characters up, complete almost every nightmare challenge, equipped them with pretty much the best gear in the game, guess what happened?

Random Character wipe. This is not uncommon, it happened to lots of people I used to play with online.
