Sid Meier's Civilization V | 75% Off & Free To Play Weekend | Steam | PC

Yesterday’s deal from Gamersgate is still on-going, but now Steam have decided to join the party by price matching them for the weekend. Additionally, they are allowing all Steam users to download and play the game full game for free until the sale ends on Monday, giving anyone who wishes a chance to try before they buy.

Civ V ended up being something of a polarising title in the series thanks to its drastic change in some respects, and many were turned off by the lack of animations in multiplayer. Fixes are incoming though in time for the next expansion (due out in June) and, in true Civ style, it should have you saying “One More Turn” to yourself at 3AM. Thanks to TehDomino & Bunford @ HUKD!

Civilization V GOTY Edition | £7.49 | Gamersgate | PC

Gamersgate have reduced their asking price for the definitive edition of Civ V. A saving of £7.50 current exists between this deal and the next best offer coming from Zavvi. Considering you get a large portion of the existing DLC with the main game, it’s a rather tempting offer.

Civilization V | £4.99 | Get Games | PC

Civilization V has dipped back under the £5 mark thanks to a strategy games weekend sale at Get Games. In case you don't know, it's the latest and arguably the greatest of Sid Meier’s empire-building simulations, spanning hundreds of years of history and providing near-limitless gameplay. Starting with a tribe who can barely scrape their way through building spears and huts, you’ll lead them through and beyond recorded history to create a Civilization (ooh, that’s the name of the game) that can stand the test of time. Great visuals and a slick interface make Civ V well worth a look for any wannabe overlord.

Civilization V GOTY Edition | £7.49 | Steam | PC

To finish off the 2K Games sale weekend, Steam have (unsurprisingly) unleashed a reduction on all things Civ V. The GOTY Edition works out as the best value for money by providing all but two of the DLCs, and those missing, the “Ancient Wonders of the World” & Korea Map Pack, can be purchased for an extra pound (cheers to qilah over on HUKD for that tip.) Overall, it means a saving of almost £7.50 is available, although those just looking for a no frills experience can always just get the main game for a mere fiver.

Sid Meier’s Civilization V | £4.99 | Green Man Gaming | PC

It's Civ V. For Under a fiver. Stop reading this post and buy it. Do it, do it now! One of the more accessible entries in the series, there's still just as much strategic depth as there ever was, it's incredibly pretty, and you'll come back time and time again to get one over on Genghis Khan. The pesky bastard.

Sid Meier's Civilization V | £4.99 | Gamersgate | PC

This latest offer from Gamersgate beats the recent Steam deal, and brings Sid Meier’s latest to its lowest price yet. Those looking for some turn-based action can save themselves almost £9 over the next best retailer. Please be aware that you will need to use Steam to access the game.

While its multiplayer loses some of its sparkle thanks to a lack of animations, the single player is a streamlined joy that will have you saying “one more turn” again in no time, and the change to hexagon-based spaces along with the removal of the infamous “stack of death” allows for more tactical play. At a fiver it’s more than worth a look, even if you were put off initially by the redesign. A bit of advice though; beware of Gandhi, that guy likes his nukes. Thanks to djmetsandy @ HUKD!

Steam Autumn Sale: Civilization V, Limbo, RAGE | PC Games

Another day, another new bunch of deals for Steam users to get their hands on. Here are our three picks of the current cycle, which will expire at 6pm today.

Sid Meier’s Civilization V (£6.79): The latest instalment in the turn-based strategy series had many changes from the usual formula, including a hexagonal game board and non-stacking units, but it all worked well (bar the lack of animations in multiplayer.) With a saving of  around £7, it’s definitely worth a look.

Limbo (£1.79): The stylised platformer had the gaming world in awe last year, and at this price it is almost rude not to give it a go if you haven’t already. Minimal in its presentation, and thought provoking in its content, Matt gave it a 10 in his review. At a ridiculous sub-£2 price, you can find out why for yourself.

RAGE (£14.99): It wasn’t the grand return of the id Software reign that some were hoping, but it’s a beautifully brutal game with shooting mechanics that are incredibly satisfying. It’s just a same everything beyond that was a little lacklustre. Still, at £15 and a saving of a fiver, it might be worth a go.

Civilization V Game of the Year Edition | £17.99 | Play | PC

If you’ve held off from buying the latest instalment from Firaxis’ strategy series, and now fancy giving it a go with all the content, this offer is definitely worth a look. Because of SendIt’s P&P costs it means the deal from Play will save you just under £2 on the purchase. So what extra stuff do you get with the game? All four Cradle of Civilization Map packs, the Civilization and Scenario packs for Spain, Inca and Polynesia, the Multiplayer Map Pack, and a digital copy of the fantastic soundtrack. It’s a great bargain for what is included, although prepare to say “one more turn” multiple times whilst losing many hours of your life if you do go for it.

Sid Meier's Civilization V | £7.50 | Steam | PC

This weekend deal from Steam may not be as cheap as some of the summer sale offers a few months ago, but this is currently the best deal by far if you want some turn-based strategy action. For just £7.50 you can get your hands on a digital copy, which will save you a massive £7 over the next best deal over at Zavvi. While its multiplayer loses some of its sparkle thanks to a lack of animations, the single player is a streamlined joy that will have you saying “one more turn” again in no time, and the change to hexagon-based spaces along with the removal of the infamous “stack of death” allows for more tactical play.
