Codemasters Announces Free-To-Play F1 Games For 2012

To be honest, we're still bitter that the excellent BBC coverage of F1 is about to be hijacked by a nefarious Australian and his media behemoth, but here in the world of gaming, Codemasters have announced that they're bringing a free-to-play F1 game to a PC near you next year.

Titled F1 Online: The Game, the new title will be a browser game that lets players to create, clothe and customise their own teams, running the commercial aspects of the industry as well as racing in a somewhat streamlined, top-down view that utilises the Unity engine and will re-purpose a few elements from the main series.

Jon and Felix took a gander at how F1 2011 is shaping up and also spoke to senior producer Paul Jeal about the upcoming mainstream title, and we'll be getting a look at the new online offering next week out at Gamescom. Watch this space!
