When you think of the first person shooter genre I suspect you do not immediately have visions of grabbing your Wii stick and booting up Nintendo's console. With The Conduit, High Voltage Software sought to change that and the game received a whole lot of attention as a result. ...at least it did before its actual release. Sadly the game just did not quite live up to the high standards set by the leaders of the genre or to its own hype. However, it is still a decent enough game and, now that it's broken the golden £10 mark, it may just be worth investing in.
Gamestation's super price of £9.99 is almost half the cost of the next best competitor (£17.99 at HMV)
This deal is for the Special Edition version which comes with three exclusive in-game items: “Drone” skin for single player, “Agent skin” for multiplayer and "re-skinned all-seeing eye” (I'm not too sure what that last one means either...) as well as a book of hints and tips and a fancy cover.
You won't feel as if you have been cheated out of precious hours of your life if you play through The Conduit but nor are you likely to make precious, life-long memories. It is a decent enough game but sadly it rarely excites or inspires with its so-so artwork and hum-drum setting. Technically it shines and controls brilliantly but sadly that cannot stop the gentle but persistent stench of blandness that permeates every aspect of gameplay.
