The latest trailer for Warhammer 40K-themed FPS Space Hulk: Deathwing is turning heads and raising eyebrows. Both on account of it being astonishingly pretty, but also because it claims to be entirely comprised of "in-game" footage.
To put this in perspective: each Storm Bolter shell casing is individually embossed.
Is there a difference between "in-game" and "in-engine"? Is this new trailer in any way representative of what Deathwing will actually look like across PC, PS4 and Xbox One? Unreal Engine 4 is definitely capable of delivering the goods, that much is clear, but whether the recklessly innovative folks at Streum-On Studio have the necessary graphical expertise is another matter entirely.
We're cautiously optimisic about Space Hulk: Deathwing, as you'll discover in our imaginatively-named piece entitled "We're Cautiously Optimistic About Space Hulk: Deathwing." Don't worry, I'll make a point of thoroughly inspecting each and every shell case I expend when the finished article launches next year.
