Crackdown & Dead Rising 2 Tipped As Next 'Games With Gold' Titles

A polish retailer may have spilled the beans on the next wave of free games for Xbox Live Gold members.

Ultima.pl's promotional page for Xbox Live Gold carries a very legit-looking Crackdown banner, which ties in nicely with rumours from Xbox 360 Online Centre that both the cel-shaded sandbox fun factory and Dead Rising 2 will be the next Games With Gold. Microsoft has yet to officially confirm the details, but we'll keep an eye out.

Games With Gold was announced at E3 to compete with PlayStation Plus, but disappointed many gamers due to the choice of Defense Grid and Assassin's Creed II as the debut titles. Halo 3 is supposed to arrive at some point.

We'll likely know more later today ahead of tomorrow's update.

I know you shouldn't moan about free games but if they truly are trying to compete with PS Plus then they need to up their ante a little bit. Perhaps some 2011 games...

There's no harm in a little moaning.

Oooh, finally a game I haven't played. (DR2. If memory serves I played the demo and wasn't that keen, but at £0.00 I'm in...)

MS might argue the free games thing isn't going head-to-head with Sony's similar freebies, and you can keep these rather than just "renting" them - but that's a weak argument and from the consumer's point of view the services are justifiably compared. And Sony's absolutely romping it while Microsoft keep putting out ancient games everyone played years and years ago.

Crackdown was a fantastic game when it came out. Six and a half years ago.
Meanwhile ps3 owners get Battlefield 3 and NFS: Most Wanted, amongst others...

Are they ever going to give away games most people don't already own? At the moment it's looking like it'd be cheaper to buy physical copies of all these games than it would be to buy a year of Gold.

It's nice they're giving away free games but I can't help compare it to PS Plus where it's replaced buying games for the console and I'm unable to keep up with the games they're offering each month.

I personally think this is great. As someone with a lot of games I sometimes miss out on a few due to being busy with others. I have more than 10 games I have never played (including Assassins Creed 2 GOTY), and didn't buy Dead Rising 2 due to "Off The Record" being announced (thinking I would buy both later dirt cheap), despite having Case Zero/West. Now I can play the full DR2 experience and only buy OTR, which saves buying the same game twice. Result!

I know a lot of people are moaning but not everyone has played these games and most of them were considered classics that helped 360 become what it is today. As I buy a Gold membership regardless I am very happy to get free full games whatever their age.

Surprisingly I've not played either of those. Maybe I'll give them a blast once I get through my ever growing backlog of PS+ games...
